Yes. Head injury. No helmet. His death and the resulting publicity was one of the main reasons helmet wearing was mandated in UK.

I just finished this vid. I couldn't stop watching. A lot of old film footage and good description of the British motorcycle scene for the first 60 years of the last century.
What beautiful bikes they built way back then! One of them, a Vincent Black Shadow 1951 version, sold a few years ago for 136,000$. A Brough Superior recently went for 380,000$. How's that for holding value?
