Sounds bad. I've welded an aluminium crankcase before. If you intend to weld an area that was in oil, you have to clean it out really well. The piece that I did was a '65 Triumph primary cover. The crank sprocket came apart and blew through it on the track. They walked the track and found every piece. It was baked and hosed over a two week period to get the oil out. Aluminium absorbs oil kind of like a sponge. Anyhow, it took quite a while to put it back together but the oil-free aluminium welded like steel. They raced it the whole next season that I know of, trouble-free. Looked like Frankenstein's monster(hah!). Take yer time cleaning it and it should go fine. One caveat, though: If you're anywhere around the bore. throw it away.
