When to replace rear tire?

My Dunlop TT900 (9001?) has 4,500 miles. Someone mentioned that the tire looked bald. That Dunlop tire does not have any small grooves for rain. Just some diagonal grooves offset from the center. The center of the tire is smooth. I bought the bike used with 2,000 miles but these must be the original tires (2013 model PCX). I drive the bike gently. Never burn rubber. seldom go over 45 mph.

Do i just measure the depth of the grooves in the tread; like a car? Or do i look for "wear bars" as the rubber in the center is worn? Most of the threads here have said that the original tires should go 10,000 miles.

The front tire has a rain groove along the entire circumference of the tire. It looks new.

You should have some wear marks on them that start to show across the tread when the tread gets low. Every tire, whether car, truck or motorcycle, are required by law to have these wear marks. When you can see those lines then it is getting close to time to change them. Most scooter tires wear twice as quickly on the rear as on the front. That means that your rear tire should be replaced long before the front one. Rear tires last about 7,500 miles. Also, if your tire pressure is too high the middle will wear out long before the rest, which then calls for replacing the tire. Your front tire pressure should be set to what is on the plaque on the bike, not on the tire....usually 29 psi.

This is what a new one looks like.
If yours has no centre groove,, its long past time for a replacement.

Also if it's that worn it's cupped, it probably handles horribly!

Thanks for the photo. My front tire has the center groove. When i got the bike (used at 2,000 miles), the rear tire did not have a center groove. The diagonal grooves are still deep. The front tire is TT 900 F. Rear is TT 900 A. I will check online to see if there is a possibility that the "A" has no center groove; then head to the shop to buy a tire.

I found this photo of a new Dunlop TT. Not the same size as mine but this is what mine looks like.

I hope this image shows up. I tried to drag and drop it. What is the best way to add a downloaded photo to a post? I clicked on "img" on the Full Editor page but the letters "img, img" appeared in my post. The other choices are Bold, Italic, Underline.
