First "Off"

Had my first "Off" yesterday. I was returning home from my daily ride, and as usual attempted to ride up a sloping gutter on to the footpath outside my house, My driveway slopes upward and to get momentum to drive into my garage i have to approach at an angle. It's been raining a bit lately, but the road was dry. Just as I reached the gutter I realised that particular patch was wet and mouldy. Too late, the front wheel slipped sideways and down I went on my right side, landing on my titanium knee.
I'll never doubt he strength of titanium again, I have a lump the size of a pigeons egg on the side of my knee, and it clicks a little more than usual, but still have full movement and no pain. Not surprising the knee doesn't hurt, there a no nerves in an artificial knee :-).
Damage to the bike is minimal. A slight scuffing on the exhaust cover and about 50mm by 3mm of paint missing from below the rear footpeg. Shame about that, it's no longer showroom condition. That hurts most of all to an anal type like me :-)
Have to smile when I think about my first reaction. it was to look around to make sure none of my neighbours saw it happen. Luckily no-one saw me so no major embarrassment factor

Glad you are not hurt (with the exception of a bit of pride loss). It would be nice if wet mouldy stuff, wet leaves and pine needles, sandy patches, and the like had some sort of neon fluorescence, but alas, we just have to anticipate them the best we can. At least you weren't going 20 or 30 mph (or whatever speed unit you guys use). Even the Ti bits might not have been happy.

If it clicks more than usual, get it checked up. That could cause problems later on if you just try to "suck it up".

Thanks for the concern Valiant, it's always been a bit clunky but it's already settling down to its old self.
My surgeon said it would take two years to get used to the clunk and he was right. If it gets worse I'll be paying him a visit.
It will never be the same as a natural knee, but boy is it better than the old damaged one.

One must deal with this right away, new exhaust cover (maybe chrome to help the leg feel better) a right side lower panel in red.
OFF! and you'd be joining the survivors list

I think my wife accidentally fell at least 3 times in two months when she first had her PCX.I jus waited to replace the parts, and bought some model paint to touch up the bike until she was through "learnig". I guess you could try that approach until your next scheduled service.

I rang our local Honda dealer to order a new exhaust cover (happy now, Homie

), and he couldn't believe how cheap the part was, AUD$13.70.
That was the good news, the bad news was they had to order it from Japan. The other bad news is they don't carry touch up paint, he suggested I contact a panel shop and get them to match some up for me. Guess I'll look up ebay for some Chinese touch up paint. I recently bought some for my Golf R, perfect match for AUD$7.00
Dealers in Oz don't exactly go out of their way to help scooter owners as we are a very small minority group.
Not sure how I'm going to cope with the shame of riding my bike with a damaged exhaust cover for the next month or so.

That lower panel is inexpensive as well... did the guy not want to order that from japan too? Maybe he could get your bill up to 50 bucks.

Ouch. Glad you're okay. Bikes and parts can be replaced, people can't, so good thing everything's going well.
You can probably order some of the parts from webike japan, they're usually cheap, and shipping will be cheaper for you in AUS than it is for us in the US or UK.

The damage to the lower panel is so minor I need my extra strong close up glasses to see it. Even I can live with that

I had a 2012 Kymco Super8 150 and wife decided to clear laquer a wooden rocking chair while I was at work with a rattle can. She didn't bother to move or cover the bike. It had 3,000 miles on it and was in showroom condition, with a nice coat of overspray. I felt like it was totaled. I sold it and bought a PCX... Anal would be a very nice description of my personality...

I'm surprised you stayed together after that incident
