Hello everybody!

Last week bought my PCX 125cc 2015 mat carbonium gray metallic black.

Happy to join the pcx forum and looking forward for any advise from more experienced users.

can anyone familiar with Datatag Motorcycle Security & Registration Theft Deterrent System in UK, please?

How it works and if it worth it?

Many thanks,

adr

It came with my PCX, registration included with the OTR costs. Seems recognized enough, still worth paying for a good chain, even tempted to get an alarm fitted to mine.

The Datatag fitted to UK PCX's seems to be the cheapest Datatag offering i.e. datadots hidden around the scoot (can be scanned by police, etc, using a hand scanner to tie-in with owners details as when purchased), a datatag label and UV etching. No tracker of anything like that. Indeed this Datatag offering is usually sold for bikes not motor vehicles (from the Datatag site).

It's better than nothing as they say professional thieves may have trouble selling parts that are UV marked, but that does not stop them selling cheaply to end users.

You need to be careful when declaring Datatag on the insurance to make them understand it's the most basic option - usually there is no choice in the selection to state what kind of Datatag is fitted. If there is a seperate alarm/tracker declaration then that helps i.e by default, none.

As mentioned, you need a very good chain/lock if leaving it parked for a long time on the street. If I was doing that, which I don't as I only chain it to the toe-bar of my car at home and it's in a secure underground security patrolled car-park at work) I would go for the £160+ kind that is lighter than other gold secure chains, much stronger metal than normal and cannot be cut by hand bolt cutters - it needs an hydraulic cutter as carried by the fire brigade.
