2200 $ USD 2015 PCX a good deal?

Hi all, my name is Christian and I'm new to this forum. I had been reading your forum for months now. Very useful information.
I wanted to buy a 2015 PXC 150 White at my local Honda dealer (4000$USD) , but I saw the same scooter, but black for half the price online on craigslist. (2200$)
They say it has some minor scratches on the front and that is on perfect conditions. It has 3100 miles on it.
My question is, is that a good deal? Too cheap? Too expensive? Too good for the price?
I am a first time rider btw, so I am clue less of what a deal is or not to a motorcycle/scooter. I understand that miles on a motorbike are different than a car.
I will go check it out today (40 min. drive) to see how it is. I live in northern California btw.
Any suggestions on what I should check for when I go see it (engine-wise)?
Again, im new to motorbikes, and to the forum
Any help will be appreciated.
Thank you.
-Kris

Bring someone familiar with motorcycles or scooters with you is my advice. Hard to say whether it is a good deal or not w/o seeing it and running and driving it.

I would suggest finding a reputable shop in the area to have a mechanic look it over(a pretty common request). If you're interested in the warranty, make sure the maintenance schedule(on the owner's manual) was followed properly.
If that all checks out, I would jump on it like white on rice. Personally even if they didn't follow the maintenance schedule, but the mechanic thinks it looks good, I would still jump on the thing.

You would need to be careful with considering this purchase. Has it been in an accident? My husband took a not-so-horrible spill on his PCX, and the insurance company considered it totaled because the frame was bent. That was not visible to the naked eye, but the shop guys could see it.

I would be VERY skeptical. Take someone who really knows what they are doing, and that they understand you will walk away if they say so!.

Hi Kris! Smart that you joined and are asking us questions.

That sounds like some deal for a 2015 pcx, regardless of color! But...I too am skeptical. I tried to find the CL listing in CA, but no luck. Can you post a link to it here? What northern CA city is this advertised in? Is a Dealer selling it, or is it a private sale?
If you're going...Look it over real carefully, then with all your questions ready chat with the seller, take lots of photos. Ask if you can have a friend with a mc license test ride it. Ask about the warranty. Ask if you can have your own mechanic look it over. If the seller gets uptight...that could be a Red Flag. I would mention that you belong to a PCX forum and we are advising you. This should be interesting. Please come back to us with your pics and All new info.
Remember, Looking at it, drooling over it....doesn't mean you're buying it! Of course, We want You to love this scoot as much as we do, But We want You to be safe riding it.

I bought a black 2013 for $2,300 with 2,000 miles. It had been dropped once ..... lots of scratches. I didn't notice that the peg for the center stand was bent. I am happy with the scooter. That owner had not checked oil or fluids. I have done 2,000 miles on it and have had no problems. See when they changed the oil. Ask for all of their receipts.

Thank you for all the suggestions, people.
I will follow every single one of your advises, and ask a lot of questions including the services and past "adventures" the scooter went through. (like accidents, falls, long trips, etc)
I know the most important part is if they followed the services dates as told on the manual, but again people on craigslist lie a lot
I will ask for their receipts if possible.
Unfortunately, I was unable to go see the scooter. My car has some issues with the battery... I will fix this issue first before going. Could this be a sign that life is trying to warn me not to see the scooter for some reason?
I will go this Sunday to take a look.
Again, thank you for your responses.

That's a steal if it's not shot. Check the oil, check the tires, make sure the forks are straight.
Best of luck!

I'd sell mine for $2200 at this point

. But then again, I modded it to hell and back again.

I went today (June 6th) to take a look at it and...
well.. they are selling it because his wife had an accident with the scooter, and he doesnt wants her wife to ride it anymore. Makes sense.
The scooter has
a lot of scratches on the sides, and the panels are off the body itself. It was not in a good state. Very dirty and so used up for a 7 month scooter(externally) (they bought it on September 2014) I understand that the accident made most of the current state, and I was fine with that (I thought I could fix it at a "motorcycle body shop") but the real decision came to me once I asked about the engine...
Although the exterior was very beaten, I was still interested in it,.... but... when I asked if they had done the services and maintenance he said he has NEVER EVER done or change anything at all!
At that point I said (in mi mind of course) uh oh, Houston we have a problem..
That is the most important part about a machine, to keep it in "shape."
It has 31XX miles on it, and still has the same oil running on its engine.
The lights work, the seat has tape in it, the little compartment does not opens, the under-seat compartment is fine (a little dirty,) the headlights are near-new (no scratches), tires are OK.
Overall is a good scooter for someone who needs a way of transportation without caring about maintenance, but for me, that is the most important part of it. Perhaps a simple oil change will do it just fine, but I really don“t want to deal with the problems it might cause in the future. I think I will just find an opportunity to get a new scooter from a dealer and take good care of it myself, and follow its maintenance as it should. It is only $2000 more for a new one. Also Honda will release the 2016 model, which is simply the same as the 2015 but in an awesome candy red and gray! (in the US we only had black and white colors..)
I will just wait until the new one is released or perhaps will get the white version of the 2015 early (hopefully with the release of the 2016 model the 2015 will have a price drop

)
Still undecided..
Thank you for the advice, people.
Have a safe ride.

Wise move - I would not of given it a 2nd thought. Beat up, no oil change (the 1st @600 miles is the most important). To save a few bucks (quite a few) you may have ended up out of pocket if any more problems showed themselves.

As Dionne Warwick sang: "Walk on By..."
In that condition they should be asking more like $1200, and should still have a hard time finding a buyer. Keep looking, Kris. Something will turn up.

Seller may learn to change his maintenance story for the next potential buyer, sadly. No matter what sellers say, best to have sale contingent on third-party inspection. (do as I say not as I have done before!)

Let them know that you will buy it for $1,500 (you pick a price). These scooters are tough. They can last for a long time with little maintenance ( i don't recommend that but it happens all the time). The scratches and missing panels will scare away most buyers. You will get to own and drive the scooter long enough to know if it is what you ultimately want. You can see on this forum that many people loved their PCX for 6 months to 2 years before drifting on to a larger bike.

You didn't buy it already did you?

It's really bad. Could have bent frame, wheel, forks, etc.. They are crazy for a wrecked PCX in that condition for over $2k. If you want what might be a painful project $1-1.5k max. I have been there on a wreck/salvage purchase - only did it once but it was a car.

Agree, but if someone is coming here angsting about buying a bike on the fringes of possibility the only thing that will really happen is that it will put in some keyboard time for everyone
Those that really want bikes have them
