Shopping Bag Hanger Mod.

Anyone who has owned other brands of scooters like Kymco and Sym to name a couple and used them for daily life probably used the bag hooks many times, i know i did. Well for some unknown reason Honda chose not to add them on the pcx or a luggage rack.....what are we suppose to use it for?? :x

Anyway i added my own, went to the hardware store bought some conduit hangers, took them home drilled the holes, to fit the bar clamp bolts ground a little of the ends, put them in the vice for some minor bending, got the trusty rattle can out gave them a coat of satin black paint and installed. Now i have 2 use full hangers! total cost about 50 cents. Here are the pics!

Bravo! What an excellent use of "around the house" conduit hangers! It would cost me zero to add this accessory :P Improvising at it's best ;)
I had thought as I read your post, that it might be advantageous to use some black rubber dip (or other color "if" available) to give the hooks some "grab, no slide power. Of course that would run the cost of this basically "free" addition up, but still a choice.
In the end....I Love "Your" thought process and Invention!! Cheers Drifter!

Hmm...maybe ask Dave (maddiedog) if he would move this to the "How To" of our forum?
I'd like to find this f a s t, should I decide to do it myself. Just a thought

Is there an alternate solution that does not involve drilling holes? Would a "shower curtain ring" that snaps open.... be sufficient to secure your "hanger"? Or would it wave around while riding? The hole would have to be in the hanger (not the scooter). Would a hardware store eye-hook work when slipped over the curtain ring? There must be a hardware store product that solves this problem without drilling. Or did you mean that you only drilled holes in the hanger.... not the scooter. I can't see it in your photos.

My last scooter had this shopping bag hanger and i used it often.

yak, the conduit hangers (brackets) were drilled into and the bar bolts were passed through them. Easy right? Hope that made sense

How easy is it to remove the bar bolt covers? I assume they pry off but on mine they seem recessed by a mm or so, and being crome I do not want to chip/mark anything.

You could use baby buggy/stroller bag hangers, there's loads of different ones available.

But it might create a distraction on the road if the kilt catches in the wind.

won't any load on these hooks affect the steering?

I agree this seems the wrong place to put hangers, I am sure it must affect the steering. Hooks I have had on other bikes were always attached somewhere on the body of the scooter, not the steering.

Iceman has a good question. are the chrome covers easy to remove from the bolts holding the bars in place. I would like to re position my handlebars slightly.

For short trips...steering effect is minimal. I've had 5lbs hanging over my mirrors on both sides before. Good for trips to the grocery store if it's near by.

There are many ways of adding additional carrying capacity on this scooter or motorcycles, you guys have listed some of them all good ideas. I like thinking outside the Box!!

Yes adding weight on the hooks or bars like ScooterMan, myself and many others have done changes the handling some what, i never found it to be a problem even on a Suzuki fa50. If you ever travel to Foreign countries you WILL be amazed and shocked what people haul on small scooters and motorcycles!

IF Honda added hooks to the frame or body like many other scooters have that would have been a great idea!! They Did Not so i did. This mod is optional not required!!

Forgot to add, the amount of weight and where it is placed on a scooter, motorcycle , bicycle or truck will affect handling, the lower the weight is placed the better. Add a case of beer to the rear rack and you know its there, a couple bags of chips and cookies from the bar hooks almost no change at all. ;)

Drifter, can you tell iceman how to get those bar bolt covers off? You got a special tool or something where you poke 'em off? ;)
