So, I have a bit of a problem. According to local laws, I am required to use tires that are 'appropriate' for the conditions that I use my scooter in. That is, police have been cracking down on car drivers who were driving through snow on their bald summer tires. Apparently they haven't been checking on motorcycles and scooters just yet, but I bet they're thinking of it!

Anyhow, I've always been an advocate of switching to winter tires for the season, so I'm looking at tires for my PCX as well. I don't have a car so I'm going to have to keep riding as long as I can. As you know, the tire options as few and far in between. It's no surprise that there are no winter tires in the OEM size.

I found the following tires that may fit:
Sava MC32 Win Scoot 100/70-14
Sava MC32 Win Scoot 110/80-14
Heidenau K66 Snowtex 100/70-14
Heidenau K66 Snowtex 110/80-14

Fitting wider tires can be done AFAIK, but usually it's something like a 190 tire on a 180 rim, which is a far cry from a 100 tire on a 90 rim.

Does anyone have experience with winter tires on the PCX, or know of people who fitted tires with sizes other than the OEM ones on the standard rims? Many thanks in advance!

Weird, where are you located that they enforce that sort of thing?

I put up a tire calculator here: http://hondapcx.org/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=5, you can probably use it to tinker around to see what will fit. I'm fairly sure we have quite a bit of extra width, but not too much on height.

Germany. I'm not so sure that they actually enforce it for two-wheelers though.

That tire calculator looks pretty awesome! The front would be quite a bit smaller with the 100/70-14, but the rear is very close with the 110/80-14. AFAIK the speedometer reads from the rear wheel anyway, so I guess it would be alright

The speedometer sensor is on the rear wheel, just to the left of the wheel below the suspension. You're right, it reads off the rear. One of the tabs on the calculator has a graph that shows you how far off the odometer would be.

According to that calculator, it would be less than 1%, or probably less than normal wear on your rear tire would be

how do you use the calculator?

I lived in Germany for 3 years and yes winter tyre rule applies for 4 wheelers. I honestly never heard of anyone trying to make it work on 2 wheels as most people just had summer insurance (bike was stored October-March) and anyway with the sever German winter you would be mad to be out on 2 wheels anyway.
