best glove combo or mitt for warm hands??

Hello.
Tossing this question out for advice from veteran riders....
What is the best glove or mitten that does not use electricity...for riding in temps ranging from 0 to 30 degrees Fahrenheit?
Presently using a silk liner with heavy leather gauntlet style glove --- seems good for about 30 mins only, at 45mph. Can deal with every other part getting cold... but cold hands bring me to a stop.
Are mittens warmer than gloves? Or should I be looking at a combination like the military used: silk under wool under leather?

I have never ridden my past bikes much in the winter but my Harley buddies have told me that the Tour Masters are a good bang for the buck (Polar's <$60) for non-electrics. They also use silk liners. I think for the temperatures you are talking about electric is required for long periods. I snowmobile but the grips and gloves are always heated. There are battery versions that work well too.

I've found that I like mittens because my fingers stay warmer than when I wear gloves. I like gloves because I feel like I have more control than when I wear mittens.

For m/c riding, I like this style. Kind of a combination.

Long term, heated is the way to go.

But wool gloves and a wind proof mitten shell works pretty good.

Thanks for your reply.....you're out there on I-70, too. So, your advice is gratefully taken.
Think I will try the wool gloves and leather mittens before going to ConEd.
Thanks, Fish

My suggestion would be to consider the wind blockers you attach to the bike. Then get mittens. When I was in the Antarctic and the Arctic we found mittens to be much warmer than gloves because the fingers as a unit have more heat than a single finger.

Thanks, I will try the mittens and wool gloves over some silk liners.
The bar muffs I tried....unsafe on my scoot as I could not get at all the controls with my big hands.

I was thinking of hand guards they sell for bikes. Several of the forum members put some on their scooters, and I understand that at least one individual with a For a created his own. They should be able to block a lot of the wind. Gloves or mittens will do the rest.

On my Sunday ride I used my leather mittens. Worked great! No troubles with the controls either. Far as I'm concerned gloves are for 55 degrees or above.

I use sherpa-lined leather mittens with a handwarmer packet in each on the backside of my hands. I can go at least two hours of riding and my hands are still warm. Glove liners don't work for me---too bulky and just don't feel right.

I'm going to give this a try.
For emergency hand warming I am using the Forza's muffler to warm my hands. Works better than my fire building last winter in the state park......but I worry some about cooking the threads in my leather gauntlets.

I use a full set of Venture heat electric liners. Very luxurious. I would never go back. My annual mileage went from 13,000 to 17,000 when I got my electric gear and don't have to stop halfway to warm my fingers on the exhaust anymore.
