Hi, I recently purchased a 2013 Honda PCX150 and had a question the owner's manual doesn't address.

When the PCX is stopped and idling it feels like the scooter wants to creep forward but can't which causes the bike to vibrate/shake a lot. Also, I imagine this can't be good for the transmission.

If I pull in the front/rear brake lever the shake disappears. I thought maybe the lever also "disengaged" the transmission like a clutch, but the owner's manual doesn't say anything about this nor does it suggest holding the brake in while stopped.

Can you shed some light on on this issue? Does the combo front/rear brake do anything to the transmission? Is it normal for it to want to creep while idle? Thanks,

There is no clutch to disengage. It sounds like the idle speed may be set too high. Take it back to the dealer for a check. They should do that for free.

There is a clutch, its fully automatic and activated by centrifugal force, as the revs build the clutch engages.
If the scooter is creeping forward with the throttle closed the idling speed is not correctly set.
Continuing to ride it like this and holding it on the brakes when stopped will cause damage to the clutch.
You need to get it sorted a.s.a.p.

Put the scooter on its center stand. Have the engine warmed up and let it idle. See if the rear wheel is spinning at idle. If it spins the idle is too high. If it does not spin you are ok. My PCX feels smoother at idle if I hold the brake on at stops.

Putting on the center stand may still let the rear wheel spin a bit, but if you can stop the spin with one or two fingers on the tire with very minimal pressure, then it isn't a problem. But if it feels like there is resistance, then get it looked at.

Check the free play in the throttle cable

Thanks. This is a great suggestion that I feel like will give me a pretty definitive answer. It's really hard to tell if the brake just dampens some vibration or it's wanting to creep. I'll use the other suggestion about light pressure vs. more resistance. I also understand that if it is idling too high and wanting to creep then just applying the brake is burning up the centrifugal clutch.

I bought this PCX used where the previous owner had put a whopping 8 miles on it in 2 years. He said the gas was a couple months old and had been treated with Stabil. I thought maybe the injectors need cleaned and may be causing an idle issue. Otherwise, it runs really smooth at 55-60mph, gets 84mpg riding at 60mph (throttle pinned - it's windy here) to and from work, and starts with no issue whatsoever.
