Potential PCX Buyer

Hi all,

I'm currently in the market for a 125cc scooter. I haven't passed by CBT yet (booked in next week), but I having been shopping around in eager anticipation for when I get it. I've narrowed it down to this and the Suzuki Burgman. Now, I appreciate that this is a PCX forum, so there will be bias, but I'm not going to be asking for side-by-side comparisons.

I'm a big lad. I'm 6' tall and weigh 18ish stone (around 250lbs) - fat, sadly. The best review I've seen for the PCX was on YouTube. The guy was pottering about NW London, but he mentioned that he's a skinny 5'7" guy and has a custom seat because it literally is a pain in the backside. I don't really want to add any mods so that I can keep insurance down. I haven't researched how much it would go up with mods yet, but it's £165 completely stock with no additional security. I can go to a dealer and sit on it to see if it's comfortable, but I can't ride it long enough to see if things will be okay long-term. So, it'd be nice to know from anyone with a similar frame to me as to how the bike fits.

I'm mostly going to be using the bike to get to the train station as I am looking for work in London. From my house, the station is around 4 miles away and is pretty much one 40mph dual carriageway all the way there. I will be using it as an alternative to my car when I don't need to take the kids with me, so it will be getting more use generally on 30mph roads too.

Cheers guys!

I'm 6ft but my build is not so athletic as you. The only thing you might want to do is mod the seat. I moved the hump back a bit and re-engineered it a bit to get a bit more room. If the guy on the video is short then the seat will be fine. He's probably fussy.
Have a good sit on one at the dealer. The seat mod cost me nothing apart from buying a decent staple gun.

I'm also 6' and 18 stones. I had my seat recovered and the hump removed, this don't change the insurance.
This is my first scooter and very happy with it, 40 miles will be OK, I found the hump inconvenient not painful.
I average, over 1400 miles 117 mpg and also intend to do all my own servicing as I have all the tools and a good workshop. The 2600 miles service interval comes a bit quickly.

Yesterday I took my 16 year old grandson for a long ride around town. I weigh around 190. I have no idea how much he weighs, but he is a little heavy for an average teenager. So I would have to guess that the bike had close to 400 pounds on it. The engine strained a little on hills but did get up them at the speed limit. Our average speed ranged from 35 to 45. We did hit 50 once or twice but it was a stretch. The bike is a pcx 150, so a 125 might not be able to do what mine did. As for comparing the Burgman to the pcx, if they are both 125s the choice would be difficult. I had a Burgman 400 and loved it, especially on the road. It was a cruiser in its own . It had great wind protection, and it was very dependable. So, good luck in choosing between the two.

Personally if I was shopping for a short journey urban use 125 scooter right now I would be buying the £1100 Lexmoto Vienna.
