woozy -

Dont worry about it. Its actually not too hard to do. You have to take your grab rail cover off and you will see some circles on the underside where you will need to drill. Do you have a dremmel? it makes life SO much easier for this. After drilling the holes in the plastic panel below, you will be bolting into existing threads that are there on the frame. In fact, if you dont feel like drilling the holes and waiting for someone to help you, you could just take this panel off and instal the top box without it.

In about a week... I'm going to be doing another valve check and will be taking my scooter into the dealer to have the turn signals fixed under warranty while I have the panels off. I will take pictures of the holes during disassembly and post here.

I havent seen the second part before, but I assume you would use that if the kind of box you have supports a quick release. Also, I'm sorry, but thats the only pic I have...

sounds good. You will see the circles, they're pre-molded. You will likely have to boar them out a little bigger, but when you do so, I would place the plastic back on the bike so you can ensure the holes are centered with the threads in the frame. Good luck!

The first photo shows the carrier plate that bolts to the scooter.

The second is the specific mounting plate for a Honda branded topbox.

So, the first bit is kind of essential whatever top box you fit, but the second could be substituted for a givi plate, or mounting plate for whatever make of topbox you decided to use.

I hope that makes sense.

I installed my Honda topbox with only the first plate. It does not have a quick release feature.

my box has the quick release, i like it and it's very secure, bit too stiff at first but when the rubber buffers wear a little its very good.
i want a bigger box tho

Esdain - I take it the second link (with the other plate) is what turns a honda topbox into a quick release box?

ye thats right, for the look of it that plate bolts onto the top of your other plate and that locks your top box in place

That's pretty cool. I didn't know that was an option for the honda topbox, but it makes total sense! This is an option that I will likely be adding to my current setup. Would have never known if it weren't for this post! =)

Some of the cheap Chinese boxes on ebay have the same quick release plate lugs as the Givi and/or Honda ones.

You can sometimes get a plate and box for the price of the Honda plate. That way you can have your Honda box for normal use and maybe a bigger (but ultimately nastier) bigger box for different trips. The plates are normally OK, the boxes "usabe" is about best said.

ebay was a win for me. I got the stock honda box, and plate delivered for $90 US. Will probably be adding the quick release feature ASAP

right had a go at the topbox and plates, all went well...sort of

one of the nuts for the honda quick release plate slipped under the seat and fell down into the lock cavity for the seat, no idea i will be able to get to that and i just know its going to rattle around

also i cant get the topbox to lock in place on the plate :(

do you have a way to upload pictures of the bottom of your topbox?
