PCX 2019 bigger wheels on older PCX (2016)

I seeing a lot of used and cheap latest PCX(2018 up) wheels on Marketplace. I find this interesting because it will enable me to put the stock wider tires of the new PCX on my 2016.

I was wondering if it would fit (plug and play) without any modifications needed? (i.e mud covers, Disc brakes, clearances in general..)

If not, which parts should I look/measure? Any ideas or suggestions would be helpful. Thanks

I think you are going to be the one to test and find out. They look nice though, in gold.

I know that I read somewhere on this forum that others have installed larger sized tires on their bikes and had to tie the air box up out of the way. Otherwise, I think they mentioned that everything worked.

Read this. This is an install and review of larger tires on current rims, but it might be helpful. No one has switched the entire rims yet, that I know of. You would be the first.

I don't like the idea of putting wider tires on the narrow oroginal wheel as it seems to squeeze the tire and will result in actually reducing the contact area on the road. (iv'e read that somewhere, I forgot where though).

I'm sure the 120/70 won't have any problem on the back as people have used them before on old pcx models, my concern is the wider wheel itself and not the tire size.
Esp on the front where the disc brake is attached to the wheel. I'll have to find someone with the new PCX and maybe try to measure the clearances, but I'm not sure which parts should I be measuring. I'll let you guys know if I find anything..

If you need some measurements, i can check on my '19 model PCX (It has ABS but i don't think it changes the disc position)

Good thing for you, the 120-70-14 tire has a smaller diameter than 100-90-14, so it could help clearance with the little fender near the motor.

The rear brake don't seem to be different, brake pads stays the same.

Rear will most probably fit right on, I have doubt on the front. At least the disc and bolt pattern is different - that's what I've found when tried to move the big brake kit from my 2015 bike to my new 2019 one.

If this is true, then I might just scrap the entire plan. No use changing just the rear, and any needed modification to fit the front is not worth it, IMHO.

I'll try to see it for myself, hoping to find someone with the new PCX in a few days or so..

Well i did try to take some measurements but nothing really made me sure if it would fit or not.
New front wheel is about as wide at the rim as the old back wheel, "fun fact". At least that is about what i found.
Anyways with the wheel in the way i got tired of it and just took of both front wheels.

Sadly with the corona virus outbreak there are no classes at my university... Im not going out much at all... So i have time...

It did not fit. Old forks are about 6 mm closer together. Same as saying new rim is a bit wider in the center as well as at the rim, if that makes sense. I did not take of the brake calipers so the wider rim run into them but you can sort of twist the rim around them and get it into place. With the brake disk in the calipers i had equal stickout on both sides that did not fit in the forks, about 3mm maybe a bit less. It really did not seem like the forks wanted to be pushed apart. The old wheel fits just plum. I mean i did find that the distance between the forks of the model are about 6 mm further apart so..
But this is getting me confused because the steering stem of the 2019 model is supposed to be compatible with basically everything after 2015 according to the honda genuine spare parts catalogue. Same exact code.
I cant see where i possibly went wrong. Possibly my 2015 led model is of the early ones i cant conclude anything after this point sorry
Im not making much sense anymore am i lol

Probably just made you get confused here. You will have to find out for yourself eventually and get back to us with your findings. Good luck.

Also: Measurements

2019 : width of rim in the center with both bushings about 122 mm
my 2015 led model about 108 mm

I could also measure something specific if you want. But it certainly wont fit in mine..

Scratch that the calipers actually open up to 127 i dont know what i was thinking.
Took another pic. Anyways if you might want me to measure something else im up for it.

Wow, I didn't expect you'll really take them apart just to measure. It seem like it won't really fit and probably the only solution is to change the forks too, which I believe is too much of a hassle.

I was looking at a PCX 2019 this afternoon at the park, and realized that the swing arm on the latest model is not even the same as the old PCX.

I appreciate you doing it for the sake of curiosity as well as the desire to help. Thank you very much.

I'll be making my own investigation and post the findings here, though I have yet to find someone I know who owns the latest PCX model.

Yeah don't worry about it. As i said a lot of free time right now...

What is still bugging me is that thing with the steering stem for the new pcx digital models. I dont get it. They seem to be using the new steering stem (after 2018 models) code: 53219KWN980 for all models after 2015. But i found about 4 mm difference between the forks, right at the point where they are fastened to the stem, between the 2015 and 2019. Unless i measured that distance wrong... ill check tomorrow lol. Cause you see lets say i need a new steering stem and buy that new one and use the old forks my wheel will not fit for 4mm or it will be squeezed... Hmm... I might be missing something.

Anyways glad i could help a bit.

Update:

I finally found a PCX that actually did what I had in mind and I didn't like what I saw.

Looks like the rear wheel will fit, but look closer..

The clearance between the swing arm and the wheel, as well as the tire and the rear shock is too small..

Too close that watching it made me uncomfortable.

Anyway, I just changed my rear tire into 110/70 instead.

First of all, I have to say, "Wow, that is dedication to finding the answers!".
Thank you both for finding the answers to this question, which I might add, has been asked by more than a few PCX owners.

Next:
dantedmc3, it is possible on your particular 2015 model that the manufacturer kept the forks that were produced for the 2013 and before models, since the 2015 model was built when Honda was in transition to the newer design. They did not stop their assembly lines during the transition, but instead incorporated changes as the line progressed. Therefore, some 2015 models had not even had their lighting switched to LEDs yet, while others were completely changed over. My service manual says that it is for 2013 - 2017, and has pages in each section for 'after 2013'... but to service the 2015 model you might end up going back and forth within the pages in each section.

With that said, I believe the 2018 and above model was completely redesigned, so I would have been surprised if the rims had worked.

alx123, I would have to conclude from those pictures that it would be dangerous to install the larger rims on an older model PCX. Imagine getting ANYTHING caught between the rim and the swingarm. Ugh! I would not even want to imagine what would happen then.

I would conclude from this investigation that if you want larger tires on your older bike, then buy the ones that will fit on your present rims. Otherwise you are courting danger.

It is dangerous. I don't know who owns the PCX on that photo but next time I see him I feel like I need to at least let him know of the danger.

I think increasing the tire size using the original rim is ideal. as long as you don't go too wide.

My 110/70 look and feel okay, though it is quite lower than the original 100/90. I'm sure a 120 would still be possible, as someone posted it here before, but it will be a little too wide for the rim that it might squeeze the tire a little.

A 110/80 would be perfect, as it will be closer to the original tire's height.
