The village has cut a good many trees downtown (and replanted), but there was quite a row when they wanted to cut these big American Sycamores.

It's tough to maintain tradition sometimes . . ..

The trees have a way of getting tangled up in utility lines and over hang parking areas and what's bad for business gets axed.

That said I'm glad to see your town still replants when possible. Volunteers in my town do a great job maintaining planting pots on the median on Main Street. Power to the people! :D

I really wish it would be a requirement that builders replant for all those trees they clear when they start building subdivisions. Heck, around here I have watched as year after year the builders come to a nice wooded area and clear it out so they can build some $1 million homes without regard for the environment. In a few years there will no longer be any patches of forest between housing areas. Fall will come and you won't see color changes in the forests. So sad.

A couple of years ago developers cleared a huge amount of land for housing near us, bulldozed every last tree on the estate, and then called it Forest Glen.

Sad situation. :(

Long live the Kuala bears. :geek:

Freakin "No Minds" ran them into the ground too for their pelts . . ..

The few that are left are barely hanging on and their remaining habitat is being destroyed now by fires.
