Re: Takegawa Pcx 170cc
Hey Pcxdemon, I need an opinion. I have a pcx 150 with biondi windscreen and I'm looking to put a takegawa variator and sliders in. What weight sliders would you suggest so as to have the best top speed ? Also is the Imap worth using with no other mods? Also what clutch spring would you guys suggest? My riding averages 50-55 mph (80-90 kph) with plenty room for more. I went from 110kph (68 mph) to 104 kph (65 mph) from putting on the windscreen. I would like to be able to do 75 mph (125 kph) however pulling hills and acceleration could be sacrificed to 70 mph (120 kph)

I just meant 125 kph could be sacrificed to 120 kph. Ignore my mph figures guys.

Takegawa supplies you rollers with the variator so i would just get that first.See if you're happy how it performs at that set up.. Takegawa advises two diff roller sizes for 150 and they depend if you run performance exhaust. Normally the weight supplied with the vario will be oriented for stock exhaust and on 150 'i think' will be 9g and performance exhaust they advise to buy extra 8g weights. So Id say for sliders you couldn't go wrong with 8.5g size.
Dont worry about imap, its waste of time as stock ecu is awesome and can compensate alot and in your case you will be more than safe. I run 170cc with huge 31mm throttle body, exhaust, pod filter all of stock 125 ecu and all i had to upgrade was to larger injector...
For clutch i recommend Malossi 'red' spring upgrade but be careful as not to get red spring for 'malossi clutch' but red spring for honda stock clutch, that should give you nice snap of the line.
That Biondi screen is huge and thats why your top end droped down a bit,im sure whilst its very comfortable it may be robbing you some top speed performance therefor if you want to go faster id upgrade the screen to Givi d322 type. May not as be as comfy but it will be ok just ask someone who already has one..
Hope that helps..
Cheers

Re: Takegawa Pcx 170cc
Reading this thread really took me back to my first scooter, a 2004 Yamaha Zuma. It would barely do 42 mph on flat ground. I loved it, but riding to work wasnt feasable as the second half of the trip required me to travel 45 mph to stay safe with traffic.
Thats when I joined a forum and was bit by the modding bug. I first bought a pipe and variator, from there I was hooked. Just like demon, I went thru almost everything. Big bore kit, reeds, carb, jets, clutch, another pipe, ecu, street tires etc etc. It was expensive, but fun as hell. Meeting another zuma on the streets was a favorite. They just couldnt understand how my bike was so much faster. Everyone wanted to do the same, but couldnt afford the cost of the parts and labor to get to a 70cc bike. I feel one advantage Demon has here is that he is working with a 4 stroke engine over my 2 stroke back then. Two strokes pack a wicked punch, but in my opinion they are not near as reliable as a four. I worked hard to get the jetting right and finally got there after a whole season of changing carbs and jets and plugs. Air flow was another key issue. Stock air box didnt let enough air in to reach the potential of the upgrades where as a pod just sufficated the engine. I bought an extra stock air box for testing and drilled holes using rubber plugs to find the right air mixture. After two years of reeds breaking, carbs messing up, and constant work to keep it running I ended up selling it and buying a Euro Sport 150. It was and still is a decent bike with a top speed of 68 with me on it. It didnt get near the mpg as my PCX does, and struggled in the wind to maintain speed.
I give you a ton of credit for doing this demon, I know its sometimes fustrating but in the end it seems you have what you were looking for. Congrats.

They already have ,just no video of it. Its a 175cc so quite an upgrade from 163cc for the 125 model gen1..Slickvic wrote:Here is a related video with a slightly better camera angle:

But honestly i would just get 31mm throttle body, injector and a variator. It would fly as good as the one in the vid...

Now I see what you are saying about the rpm's starting higher and then settling lower a bit due to the progressive curve of the stock torque slot.Pcxdemon wrote:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=730HrZHCXJo

BTW, How did you bypass the speed limiter?

Re: Takegawa Pcx 170cc
Speed on the PCX is only limited by the rev limiter so longer gearing can net higher top speeds if you have enough power to push through the air.
Re: Takegawa Pcx 170cc
As sendler said, there is no speed limiter of sorts...There is rev limiter and stock vario short ramp stops limiter. No need to remove the rev limiter for more speed, just upgrade vario for more top end...Slickvic wrote:Sounds good.Pcxdemon wrote:... honestly I would just get 31mm throttle body, injector and a variator. Re: Takegawa Pcx 170cc
Ok, I will do that then. I love everything about my PCX except that it's not happy that I weigh 240 pounds. When it was new I could cruise 60MPH. Now with almost 2,000 miles on it, I usually top out at around 55MPH.Pcxdemon wrote:As sendler said, there is no speed limiter of sorts...There is rev limiter and stock vario short ramp stops limiter. I would like to at least be able to cruise at 65 in most conditions.
And no I do not want to upgrade to the Forza. I love the idea of having a very light weight vehicle that I can tweak closer to insanity. I know the PCX was engineered for fuel economy. I want to see it's wild side.

The first thing you will want is a tach so we can see what your bike is doing as you mod it.Slickvic wrote:I love the idea of having a very light weight vehicle that I can tweak

This little Koso tach is powered from it's own battery so it is a one wire hook up. very easy to install. All you do is run the wire down and wrap it around and around the spark plug wire.
