Harley motor drag bike guys use lower octane fuel in their race bikes because the flash point is at a lower temperature and spread out more on the top of the piston.

I think you'll find they use lower octane because it detonates faster thereby giving more power at the risk of a hotter combustion. The higher the octane the slower the detonation.
