I agree, it is weird. Best not to ask about the public education system and how that is funded and administered Off topic thankfully.

I wish it was that way here. As you can clearly see from me and Rainburg going back and forth, some laws over here are as clear as mud.

I think that it's a little weird as well that the states can vary, but it all goes back to states' rights vs federal government regulating everything. I am all for states' rights and the smallest federal government possible (and state government for that matter). It's nice that if you don't like some of the laws in one state, you could move to another with different laws that you agree with more, but still be within the same country. The license requirements do vary from state to state, taxes vary, and even things like environmental policy and immigration enforcement. Of course, this can also make things difficult to manage and consistency over the whole of the country could be hard to come by... But anyways, I got my motorcycle license here in Arizona for maybe $30 and have it until I'm 65 and no restrictions on what I can ride. Works for me!

In Oregon it never cost extra to have a motorcycle license with a drivers license. Same here in Texas. When I moved here over ten years ago the DMV simply included my Oregon motorcycle license on my new Texas drivers license no test or additional fees of any kind required.

I think that's different. If I had come from another state with a motorcycle endorsement, it would simply be included in getting a new license.

No extra in Tennessee to keep the "M" Motorcycle Stamp on Your Drivers License either....costs extra initially for the Motorcycle Test/Endorsement though. Tennessee has some really stiff penalties, and expensive fines for riding without one now also...

Yeah I've been looking at that. None of these are classed as modifications by insurance company are they? I mean they just stick on...

I'm not in the UK, so I don't know... I'd imagine they'd be no different than putting a sticker on the bike (because that is all the transmission garnish is).

Woolley any add on is a mod as far as ins is concerned. Are you willing to take a chance after what went on with your car?

Good idea as chances are they wont charge extra but they will have it on their system. If they say that you do need to tell them about add ons like that insist they send something in the post acknowledging it as I do not trust ins one bit and always make sure all bases are covered.

Looking out for yourself is ridiculous? Not in my book mate. Just remember that most if not all ins companies want your money and will do anything to get out of paying.
If you add something on a stock bike you have effectivly created a mod. An insurance company can argue you have made it stand out from the stock version attracting more attention or affecting the handling, speed etc. Only a fool would risk it

Here in the USA, they really don't care about mods at all...

+1 Mods actually help you out, I totaled a bike that I bought for 1700 with a bunch of aftermarket parts. Because of the parts, I got $3500 for it AFTER buying it back with a salvage title. Only took $300 fixing it myself, because I left the scratches. My insurance company basically didn't ask any questions, and were quick to write me a check. All I needed were pictures of the parts, and didn't have to provide proof of purchase.

Yeah, I was saying that it ridiculous about the insurance companies. They seem even more lame across the pond. Over here, the only thing they care about is performance modifications. All the other stuff they could care less about. I actually get $3000 of free accessory coverage with my policy. Just need to keep receipts.
