The Grom is doing some great fuel economy numbers but the PCX is bigger and faster with better weather protection and storage.

I love these little things. If it had a bit more displacement to be highway capable, I'd likely be drooling over one. I'm all for minimalistic touring, and it fits the bill better than the PCX does. My PCX is great for anything but offroads and highways, and my cb250 has horrendously bad brakes, but the speed I need and handles good enough offroads. Combine the two and make it smaller, and you have the Grom.

It is so small, though, I fear it won't be seen well enough in traffic.
The biggest visual item is the headlight.

If I cared about visibility on a bike, I'd ride a Goldwing trike and have high-vis gear.

My prevailing theory about the PCX is that it's invisible to everyone on the road -- I think the same would apply to the Grom. I rode in a gutter last week because I was ran off the road from someone pulling in front of me. It's a regular occurrence. You have to ride like you're invisible and everyone else is drunk. The lady who ran me off the road stopped, I stopped next to her and asked her why she cut me off, and scared her because she didn't even see me pull next to her. Most drivers are clueless they're piloting giant weapons.

There's lots of them over here in Thailand, where they're called MSX....

When I did rider training last year, there were I think 5 Groms in a mixture of 20 or so bikes to train on. The others were all CBR125 bikes. So yes, some folks did train and get their G2 Ontario, Canada graduated license on a Grom and likely will for a while. Interesting though that of the 3 people who did not pass, two were on a Grom. It's just silly really if your over/around 6ft.

One of my riding buddy's has a Grom but he is about 5'9". One ride was enough for me. Good marketing videos though.

But the neat thing about.these Groms is, they don't look like a scooter.
Sat on one at a power dealer ...cool bike...Honda techs are snarfing them up quickly.

My complaint is the size. I prefer a Yamaha TW200 for play. The Grom is so small.

The motorcycle school I attended just got a Grom and they let me take it out for a little while before their class with a new group of students started.

I rode it on a 50 mph freeway. I got it to an indicated 60mph but I'm not sure if the speedometer reads 10% optimistic like my CBR 125R or not, but the 9 HP Grom I would probably only take on very short stints on the freeway say to cross a bridge where you're on and off at the first ramp. But low end power is a lot better than my CBR, so it'll feel at home on city streets to secondary highways.

Where it excels is it's nimbleness. It's seriously one fun bike to hoon on. After the freeway, I took it back to the training yard and taking corners like no one's business.

About size, I'm 6'-1" and thought the size was ok.

Pros:
Nimble

Great low end power
You'll look ridiculous....ly good on one.

Cons:
No top end power
Not suitable for freeways
The four gears feel like they're spaced too far apart

Suitable for:
Riding around town
Hooning
Gymkhana

I use my PCX when I ride with the Grom guy so we don't look too strange. It's a clown bike next to the Forza or V-Strom.

It just makes the PCX look like a toy too. lol.

Reading a book by a surfer living on a French island...he used the term grommet to describe the sporting coastal youth in California. Grom apparently refers to those adventure sport youth 16 yrs of age or less.
So, I think Honda chose a fine name for this little bike. Have seen a couple on the showroom floor. Fine looking little machine!
At one Honda power store the techs snapped up two of them before they were uncrated.

Grommet 

I think of Beach Boys....
