Re: PCX Vario cover corrosion?

From the start of this thread I have been sourcing parts just in case I decided to get a new OEM vario cover. I have a great price from a Thai seller I have used a few times before - £54.99 inc shipping (obviously import duties on top).
But we have an issue over part numbers. The eBay seller will supply which ever part variation I want but there are two disputed sets. The parts I think I need for my UK 2013 registered PCX 125 are these:
VARIO COVER 11341-KWN-780
Gasket 11395-KZR-600

However, the seller reckons those part numbers are wrong, that they are actually these:
PCX 125 VARIO COVER # 11340-KWN-900
GASKET # 11395-KWN-900

He asked me to check where the breather tube is on the vario cover, so I sent him pictures (below) to illustrate.
His response: "they both have the breather tube but yours is on the vario casing and not the vario cover can you see the difference please check again.
so yous is the 2012-13 model"

What do you think? Is he right, or are the first set of part numbers correct?

You don't need any new parts, just paint it.

Thanks, gn2. That aside...although I would like to know which is the correct replacement part if possible...I got stuck into the vario cover in situ just to see what was under the bubbly paint. Needless to say, the loose paint came off quite easily - combination of scraping with a screwdriver and sanding. I can feel and see a few other weather affected bits underneath that need sorting but I am sold on the idea of repainting once I have removed the cover and cleaned and sanded down remaining areas.

Your advice and guidance would be appreciated, please.
1. Is it best to sand down the remaining shiny unaffected parts of the cover, so that it looks the same all over when repainted?
2. Do I Prime the sanded surface before repainting?
3. Can you recommend primer and paint products or will Halfords spray cans be adequate?
4. Do I need a clear finishing coat on top?

As you will have gathered, I have never done this before.

Why not fit a kickstart kit?

If it wuz me it would be getting a quick rub down with wet & dry then spray two or three thin coats of this:

But I'm a lazy bugger.

Thanks. Sounds like a plan, so I’ve ordered smooth silver. How smooth is down to me, though, I guess.

I’m even lazier. I’d just ignore it as it doesn’t affect the functioning of the bike in the slightest.

Just an update. Vario cover rubbed down and several coats of Hammerite smooth silver. Couldn’t be more pleased with the results. What a transformation. Good as new! (Excuse the foot :D )

Looks like you've done a very nice job there.

Just because I am that type of person, I would do something about the bolts as well. In fact, you might consider a quick wire brush on the bolts behind that cover area, and then some kind of protection for them. Nothing worse than trying to get rusted bolts off.

When I was in the military we used Zinc Chromate Primer on everything because our helicopters spent a lot of time near and on the water.

Thanks for the suggestion, Mel46. As recommended by Mark2260 in an earlier message, I have bought some ACF50, which I plan to use for future protection. I have sprayed WD40 on the bolts and panel screws already for good measure. New gasket is on its way so reassembly once it arrives.
