This morning I made a right turn out of a parking lot onto a busy 4 lane intraurban arterial road. I noticed a car behind me coming on a little faster than I liked. I ran away from him--I was on my Burgman 400--but he kept up with me. Not wanting to break the speed limit by more than 10 miles an hour, I switched lanes so he could get past me, if he so chose. He did so choose, but not before, as he came by, shouting out his window, "Don't pull out in front of me!" in a loud and uncouth manner.
My first thought was to, at least mentally, flip this disrespectful bastard off. I very quickly exchanged this reaction for another one more connected with truth and safe landing, namely: a feeling of gratitude to this guy who, in his grandmotherly kindness, had let me know that I had made my turn onto the street without correctly judging the speed of his coming on and had endangered his vehicle and mine and my very fragile person in so doing.
These are the cheap lessons. Sometimes they only come that way once.
When will I ever learn?

There are quite a few drivers out there who, instead of being cautious, charge ahead when seeing vehicles getting ready to enter the traffic stream. He was obviously one of those. In cases like that, no matter what your speed when merging with traffic, you will never be in the right simply because he was in a hurry, and being in a hurry means you don't have to be courteous.

Life lesson, people are jerks. You can't do anything about it...unless you mount weaponry on your scooter....

Re: When will I ever learn?
I had someone pull up by ME last night and tell ME to stop texting just because I was riding with one hand on my tank bag... that's a first. Hardly knew what to say, so I just kept driving with my hand on my tank bag.

Some people will always be assholes. People who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones. Like he is perfect and never cut out in front of someone. It happens and we are all guilty of it one time or another. Its a part of driving.. that shit never offends me and I don't mind slowing down.. For some reason women love to lay on the horn especially when its a man. Don't let it bother you..its the real world with screwed up people in it.
