If you are interested in protection from the cold.........handlebar muffs are superior, although, not as pleasing to look at.

Understand.........I tried the hand guards first............helped some but not enough. The muffs I have are easy/ quick to install/remove.
Not fond of the look......... but when it's really cold.........they get the job done.

I don't have them on any more but I made some hand guards out of clear plexiglass. It was easy enough, and I used a heat gun to bend the plexiglass as needed. Putting holes in the plexiglass was easy enough as long as I took my time. You could also heat the drill bit, but I think just putting painters tape over the spot you want to drill out should work. Reinforce that area afterwards with aluminum so the vibration won't crack it when riding.

I ve done it but if you DYI it understand drill out plexiglass with normal drill bits will crack it . You should buy a drill bit made for it . Really I just bought some cheap ass 10 bucks hand guards . The mount didn't fit so being lazy I duck tape them in place . Year after year . Also bent old motorcycle lic plates over them to add more hand covering . if you re into 3d printing you can make your own
