Going to Have My MCG Tires Installed Tomorrow

I was going to remove my wheels n bring in my MCG tires to my local shop and have them replace them to save approximately $60. I’m working too much overtime lately and was going to buy the moly paste and anti-seize for the tire replacement. I’m guessing after buying those products it would’ve only saved me $35-40 plus my time and additional hassles and the rush to get it done before work. I’ve decided to have my local shop install these tires for me. I’ll post the OTD damage and my review of the tire performance after they replace them. It’s supposed to rain quite a bit tomorrow. Here are a couple of pics of the tires, shipped from revzilla from a price match of $112 w/tax included.

Keep this in mind:
New tires come with a protective coating on them that has to wear off before they perform optimally. It is not a good idea to ride in the rain right after putting them on your bike. Be aware of this when cornering.

I have recently replaced my front tire with a new Michelin, and this warning was given to me by the shop that changed it for me. This is not the first time that I have heard this caution.

After the coating has been worn off these tires perform quite well in the rain.

Thanks Mel, I didn't get to read your post till after I took my scoot in. I was really careful riding to work and home in the rain. Even with the factory coating, these new MCG tires gripped better than my stock tires. I'm so glad I got these.

You can probably get the coating off by using a scrub brush and some soap and water. The rim area would be my biggest concern because of cornering. I have put probably 20 miles on my new MCG tire and it holds corners quite well now. I think you will find these to be superb tires.

Those nubs take a while to wear off also. . ..

The tread design looks like it would channel water for better road contact.

I cut those nubs off with an “exacto“ knife- takes about 5 min per tire.

Once the coating is worn off those nubs are fine and won't give you any problems. Just wash the rims and ride...and enjoy them.

Just talked with guy tonight who said he had new tires installed on his motorbike earlier this year (Spring) and was caught by surprise by the slipperiness of the mold release.
He said he dumped it as he was exiting the dealer's parking lot and broke his kneecap!

Companies who make tires for 2 wheel vehicles have not used a "mold release" for many years.
They aren't dumb.
Tire manufacturers recommend that new tires be scuffed in for the first several miles.
Also, "Nibs Kill!" t-shirts are sold out - except for size 'short-wide'.

You need to break in new tyres to build-up their grip (they're not like designer jeans sold with tears and worn patches from new ) - but if you ride safely then they are fine. Seems like another 'IRC' incident - blame the tyres not the rider.

I can say that my wife and I have had Michelin City Grip tires on our bikes for years and have really enjoyed their grip on back country roads. Some of those roads have curves every 50 feet, as though the road crews were drunk when they built them.
