You're right. Grip is also better when the water is removed. After all snow is water. Grooves come in handy at aquaplaning. So, the end result is at all cases a better grip, right?

Re: proud new owner

My old Honda vtx18000 had a spanner wrench that came with it to adjust your rear shocks.. I still have to go pick up the tool kit for the PCX.. ------------- You don't need a spanner. There's no way to use it. The shocks have no place to adjust them. You must use aftermarket replacement shocks to d...

Re: Fatter tyres after motorway scare

The combination of just slightly larger rubber with softer more adequate compound might be the best compromise. -------------- I think you've hit the nail right on the head there. Just don't forget about the tread pattern. A winter tyre must have deeper grooves, a lot of them, for the best grip pos...

Of course, I tried to say 80/80-14 front and 110/80-14 rear.

Maddiedog, please help and erase that bloody mistake from my post above.

Re: Fatter tyres after motorway scare

I hate to send multiple posts in a row, sorry for that. If only I could edit my earlier posts a little bit longer. In Finland, the local Honda dealer had IRC Urban Master Snow tyres fitted on their PCX125. This tyre is basically a winter tyre with a good grip on moist roads. The size seems to be 80/...

Re: Fatter tyres after motorway scare

It just occurred to me that there was an issue and a recall by Honda to change a certain set of IRC tyres, because they were defective and might split. I'm not sure if it only applied to some PCX150's.

There's a thread about that issue here.

Re: Fatter tyres after motorway scare

I don't want to sound stubborn or rude. Nor am I am inclined to keep you from changing your tyres the way you want them to be. You seem to have made up your mind already. When one answers someone's post, it is intended for a wider audience, not just for the original poster. That's why other points o...

The rear shocks are not adjustable -- even for pre-load. You can download a user's guide here.

Re: Fatter tyres after motorway scare

The PCX is a nice little scooter built for comfort at low speeds. Your problem is petty engine capacity combined with average shocks and brakes -- not tyre width. Actually skinny tyres are good for traction and agility. Fat rear tyres tend to squirm on bad surface more. I know this, because I have a...

Re: How often do you have flat tires?

Never, since I got tubeless tyres on all my bikes that I use regularly. Before, I used to have flat tyres on my Vespa PX 200, but this scooter had a spare wheel. I changed the rear wheel on the road maybe some three or four times. You should carry a tyre repair bottle with you all the time if you ha...

Re: How much did you pay for your PCX?

I paid 76,000 Baht + 1,350 Baht registration, insurance and road tax for my PCX 150 in Trat, Thailand. It was about 1,950 Euro at the then-current exchange rate. I only had to pay 48,350 Baht in cash, the rest was covered by the almost six year old Honda Wave 125 that I traded in. They wouldn't give...
