Re: Commuting in Winter?
I commute by scooter in the winter unless there is snow or ice on the road. Winter preparation for me is to zip the thermal liner into my suit. The IRC tyres on the PCX are fine in winter. Heated grips are a waste of time and muffs are for puffs  Why not sell the Varadero and the PCX and get a...

Re: Commuting in Winter?
Thanks for your replies. I am very tempted to use the PCX for commuting, despite its inability to go on rush hour M4 traffic (I do take the Motorway with it at times but rush hour is too much for it). I do not have any issues with grip when I ride the scooter usually, but whenever the weather gets c...

Commuting in Winter?
Hello, I would like to see your view on winter commuting on a two wheeler. I have the option of the PCX and a Honda Varadero 1000. I usually commute on the M4 to London on the Varadero, however for one week I used the scooter, taking the country lanes which took me half an hour longer each way. I wa...

Re: Hi Visibiliy and being seen!!
Did your friend not see you or not register you? Friday a week ago I was just knocked off a motorbike for the second time in 7 years of two wheeled motoring. Both times it was impossible not to see me in circumstances that absolutely nobody could see any danger developing (in plain view, slow, good ...

Re: Riding Tips
I am very happy I only started to ride two wheelers when I was nearly 30, before that age I drove my cars like a twat as I was somewhat ignorant about advanced observation skills - biking made me a better driver and more patient in general... I don't know if I would would want my kids to ride bikes ...

Re: Riding Tips
Ignoring stone throwing, crucifying members of this forum, I just wanted to add that the world of counter steering was opened to me by a Police rider during a Met Police bike safe day. It made a world of difference to me, I am more confident in corners, safer at slow filtering speeds and I DO use it...

Re: Outdoor storage
My PCX just had its silencer changed under warranty because it was rusting away. I didn't use it much, nor did my other half. The scooter usually sits in a locked garage and got less than 800 miles on the clock when the change happened. Not only was the silencer rusting, but also the other metal par...

Re: Europe trip video
Nice! Now I am thinking about dumping the XL1000 I just got for touring and just potter about on the PCX...but as I will be riding two up I need to think again. How was the performance going uphill? And I second the question about your experience in France as I just love going to the cote d'azur and...

Re: Road Tax = tax paid twice?
Hello, just paid my car's road tax and had a thought about it. As I am paying with my net salary after income tax, wouldn't that mean its tax paid twice? If I consider my income tax bracket of 40% and given I pay 270 Pounds, am I not in fact paying 378 from my gross salary? If so, can I claim that ...

Re: Today's Quick Pic
Oh, that blows. How much did you have to pay to get your bike back? 156 British, hard earned, not budgeted for, after lots of income tax pounds....for 10 minutes parking...makes the equivalent of 936 Pounds per hour, more than my hourly wage! At least it included the fees for using card payment...a...

Re: Today's Quick Pic
Is this still about impromptu pictures? I had one unexpected picture around two years ago with my old bike....parked in a dodgy area with very hidden "private parking" signs at what turned out to be a dodgy pub's car park...apparently they made more money with private parking "offense...

Re: Engine Break In During Cold Weather?
Just don't ride it like you stole it for the first few minutes, same thing as for any cold engine. I put mine on the centre stand and let it run for the time I put my gloves on (the last thing I do before riding off). Helps to get that little bit of oil flowing and up to temperature before I go on m...

Re: Fatter tyres after motorway scare
I practice emergency stops regularly, just not from 60 mph. Was also much less drama on a BMW F800S where I could get the rear wheel in the air and continue in a straight line at the same time....

Re: Fatter tyres after motorway scare
Thanks a lot for all your answers, I am especially impressed with the tyre size calculator - much appreciated. As my tyres are correctly inflated and certainly not worn out and I was braking with both front and rear (so equal pressures on the handlebars), I still want to change the tyres. I don't bl...

Re: Fatter tyres after motorway scare
I hate to send multiple posts in a row, sorry for that. If only I could edit my earlier posts a little bit longer. In Finland, the local Honda dealer had IRC Urban Master Snow tyres fitted on their PCX125. This tyre is basically a winter tyre with a good grip on moist roads. The size seems to be 80...

Re: Fatter tyres after motorway scare
The PCX is a nice little scooter built for comfort at low speeds. Your problem is petty engine capacity combined with average shocks and brakes -- not tyre width. Actually skinny tyres are good for traction and agility. Fat rear tyres tend to squirm on bad surface more. I know this, because I have ...

Re: Fatter tyres after motorway scare
Good morning! Thank you for your concerns. I did not ask whether anybody considers the PCX suitable for motorways or not :-P it is not illegal and I did it before. Just not at rush hour traffic, during which time I would have liked to have more power to pass and merge lanes safely and more grip duri...

Fatter tyres after motorway scare
Sometimes I take the motorway with the little PCX, usually on sunny weekends or when my car was in for a 6 weeks long transmission change and I had no other way to get around. So one time last frosty week I thought that it might be a great idea to ride to work... down the M4 I went into London, just...

The green wave is only for main routes, would be great e.g. on the north circular A406, the A502, or the Strand or that one way system in Reading.gn2 wrote:Wouldn't work in the UK because there is no priority route system.djcat wrote:Never understood why transport for London never came up with that idea...
