Back Again

Hi all. The first time I have been on here since last year, when my PCX was stolen from me whilst I was on it! I have been riding my Shadow 1100 since then but I realise that for my current needs (mostly commuting, some longer rides at the weekend) a scooter just makes more sense. I would love to get myself a new Triumph (I have had one before) but I can't justify the expense. Currently looking at the new Forza 300. The PCX was perfect for my needs and cost me pennies to run but it was just too easy to steal. Hopefully I will be back in the fold soon!?

There must be some way that you can keep your PCX from being stolen right out from under you over there. What about some kind of kill switch? I know that your bike was stolen right out from under you last time so you would have a time finding just the right kind of kill switch, but there has to be something out there. I am sure that you are not the only rider with this problem.

Given how brazen the attack on Hax was, I don't know if I would want to be around when the thief found the scoot would not work. A remote, cell phone operated kill switch that you could activate a few minutes after the fact would be nicer than having an armed individual saying "Make it work. Now."

A biker at work had just purchased a fully electric motorcylce (waiting for it to arrive) and is currently riding a loan bike - semi or fully auto as it has no manual clutch, but several options (locations) for changing gears out of fully auto. Now, if I moved from a scooter, currently a PCX, a semi-auto bike sounds great.

George, I definitely see your point about an armed individual who steals your bike. Maybe the cellphone switch would be best.

I wonder how he would feel about being run over because you killed the bike just as he crossed an intersection. Oops!  (If I can't have my scooter, neither can you, you dumb sh!t!)

Having a switch that would cause the wheels to lock would be good!?

What happens in modern keyless ignition systems when you walk away with the key?
Does the ignition shut off? Cause that would solve things until they demanded the key.

Interesting point. In my car, once the car is going, it stays going, but when you shut it off, it will not start again until the key is within range. Someone could get pretty far away and make the scoot pretty much un-relocatable, but at least the thief would be annoyed. Better than nothing, I guess.

The problem occurs when you are pulled off of your already running bike. Oh, how about a distance switch of some sort? If you get off of the bike and move out of, say bluetooth range, then the kill switch will be activated. Put your bluetooth "key" somewhere not obvious, like on your helmet or on your belt if you have a riding jacket to cover it. Not on the bike itself though.
