Top Luggage Box

Post by smrbike »

What top box has anyone added for additional storage on a 2016 PCX150? The Most important item is how a /which Rear Trunk Attachment Kit "support frame" attaches to PCX's chassis for the actual box to mount to. No desire to spend $400 buying Honda's approved item.

I have GIVI boxes on our bikes. The rack is purchased separate from the box itself because the rack will fit all of their boxes. They manufacture two different types of boxes, one being for normal use and the other for rugged use (Monolock vs Monokey).
The sizes of the cases range from around 29 liters up to 45 Liter. You can use Google to find the best prices, but I am pretty sure Revzilla will be among them.

Though the website says that you have to drill through the plastic to install it, I am of the understanding that the newer models just have a protective top of some sort that is popped off to access the bolt receptors.

Can't go wrong with either Givi or Shad.
Many Honda branded boxes are rebadged Shads.

Get the Biggest one you can possible afford. I recently got a Givi 55L and its on my bike way more than my 40L due to being able to put the kitchen sink in there.
Many times people will list their bikes on CL and throw the case in. You can contact them and make a side offer just for the case.

These things should be bought used. Twice I have flipped a used Givi for a profit. I have to say My 40L is not getting responses. From exp only the bigger cases warrant interest.

I ordered the Honda rack attachment as a starting point. Can the other top boxes (GIVI, Shad, …) attach to it or, must I use their specific attachment rack instead? If so, I may be "forced" to purchase the Honda box.

FYI to all, on the 2016 model (at least), there is a plate that covers the 4 screws for the rack attachment. Pop off the 2 plastic buttons and the slide the piece forward to release - DO NOT lift as I was told to do by the dealer or you will break the slide on attachment plastic.

How much cheaper is the Honda rack attachment compared to A Givi or Shad attachment. Givi and Shad have many top box choices should your needs change in either Liter size or appearance looks.

The Honda Attachment is $42. It was a simple bolt on with no drilling. I figured that could always manufacture an aluminum adapter plate if I wanted a different top box. Same rack from different forum user's bike. The flat surface should allow any box's adapter to be bolted on. I need to find out where he got his great seat.

Almost all of the top box manufacturers provide adaptor plates with whatever box you purchase. Since Honda does not make their own top boxes or racks, most manufacturers try to make top rack adaptor plates to fit whichever one Honda chooses to provide their equipment. I like the rack you purchased. It works also as a flat platform to carry big items.

If I did get a back box I'd be tempted to get a mounting and then got an aluminium adventure style one.

Presumably the Honda mounting prongs could be joined by an ally plate and the box mounted to that?

Anyone have any better ideas?

Apart from don't do it of course. :D

Well, an adventure case might cost close to the $400 he DIDN'T want to spend on a top case. It might be better to just look at the available NORMAL cases. Remember: Monolock is normal wear cases. Monokey is heavy duty.

As it turns out, I am probably going to spend the $$$ to get a good solution. I thought, until I looked deeper, the non-honda brand boxes are apx the same price. I received bad info - it was the attachment they were normally advertising with a pic of the box - misleading bait and switch.

I am probably going to install the larger (vs 27l pcx150 case) Honda 35L case from the SH150i. I will test fit it after it arrives. My Honda parts person has been great assisting so I will purchase it from his store, not the store in the picture link. I think it is going to be apx $170 including S&H.

35L Sh150i box fits that bracket and your bike perfectly.

+1

I can fit my full-face helmet, jacket, and gloves in my Shad SH39 (39 liter) box. Also, your total cost of $42+$170 sounds in line with what I paid for my Shad box and rack. The biggest difference is that the Honda rack looks like part of the bike when the box is off. The aftermarket racks all look like afterthoughts.

Now all you need is an add-on auxiliary brake light! :D

Some more to consider: https://tourandride.com
Kappa's line of cases: https://tourandride.com/cases-and-acces ... appa/cases

I mounted a small "fixed" Kappa topcase on my rear Bicycle rack. Best add-on I purchased. Houses lotsa stuff!

All finished (a few weeks ago, delay in uploading pics). Here it is. I ordered/used the Honda PCX150 mount from my local Honda dealer (apx $42) as I looked and decided what to do as far as a luggage box. After this forum's input, web searches, and talking to my local dealer, Ordered a red SH150I box. Dealer said it won't fit, but the forum said it would so he let me order it in to try with the promise of returning it within 30 days for full refund. No need, as the forum said, it fit perfectly and it looks much better than the std pcx150 black box. It looks like it was made for PCX150 - It is, but Honda won't tell you that. It hasn't been made for almost a decade. It is "new old stock" direct from Honda. I think my date stamp inside the box is 2010, but it is as if it was made today - even the lining. Thanks all for your input and assistance.

FYI, it is 35Liter size and holds a full 3/4 helmet with face visor. Also, it has its own key (I prefer) instead of using the ignition key. Much simpler and easier. Dupes are no problem.

Forgot to mention, SH150I box was apx $170 at Honda Dealer. He "matched" online pricing. Great Local Honda Parts Tech.

Win-Win! And it looks great.
I also noticed the 'Hump' is now gone.

No, sorry for the confusion, that was from another poster's (former50cc) bike. I was trying to find out where he purchased that seat. I like the "hump". If he is listening or anyone knows, please let me know. Thanks.

I just sent him a PM.
