Ahead of it's Time Perhaps?

Post by PCX150Rider »

It's a shame but there are times when, for some reason or another, the better idea doesn't always pan out. There may be something to the old adage "The more things change the more they stay the same".

Wouldn't it be great to have a "Salsbury" in the garage eh? They sure don't make 'em like they used to. :D

That is a really strange looking scooter! There is no front! Still, it looks like the ancient beginnings of a Vespa.

The company, located in California, was involved with patents on the early CVT type transmission. It went through several takeovers, Northrup Aircraft being one of them, before it folded. :geek:

A distant relative so to speak? You would be proud. :D

Here's the story about Austin Elmore's Motor Glide . . . former employee at Mr. Salsbury's plumbing shop, or perhaps you already knew that. :D

The machines back then had character. Mr. Salsbury had high hopes of marketing them in a big way. ;)

It even has a cup holder -- WAY ahead of its time!

...."In 1938, Salsbury introduced a more powerful scooter with a continuously variable transmission (CVT). This was the first use of a CVT on a scooter. It was such a success that Salsbury attempted to license the design to several European manufacturers including Piaggio."

Well. . .maybe that guy could use it for a cup holder. . .but it was actually the speedometer mounting location. :geek:
