What do people use other than a top box on the rear rack on the sh300i? I have 2 bags from previous motorcycle touring and neither of them seem to fit securely

When touring I use a top box, and strap one of these to the passenger seat

You may have to do some modifications and/or adjustments in order to make the tailbox rack level for other purposes.

I have taken my dog in a carrier with me on the tail rack that the box is usually on. There is a part of the rack that sticks up which normally latches into the tailbox. When I need to use to rack by itself I bolt a piece of plywood onto the rack to level out that part that sticks up. Then I can tie the pet carrier on, or anything else that I need to carry there.

As was previously mentioned, you can leave the tailbox on and add items to the passenger area, using the tailbox as a back brace for the items.

...and then there are the saddlebags. Some fit quite nicely.

Thanks guys. I want to use the rear seat for a pillion which is why I want something for the rear rack. Maybe bunging a roll bag is the answer but to be honest I hadn't thought of saddle bags ... Doh!

The SH300 comes with a flat tail bracket.

Yeah the rack is flat but my old bags just don't secure to it properly. The design appears to be specific to the honda accessories rather than for general usage. Does anyone find a particular tunnel bag fits better than others? I've emailed shad to see which one of theirs they recommend.

The Givi adaptor plate is flatter and has bolt holes so you could fabricate something for it. I've got one in the shed...

I once bolted a milk crate onto the back rack. I also saw someone's personal icon on this forum in which they had a big oil drum on the back rack. You can do just about anything with those tail racks, as long as it isn't so heavy that the front of the bike comes off of the ground. It just takes imagination. Look at what they do with them in Thailand!

This thread is a bit old, but here goes.

1) Note the the SH300 rack is plastic.

2) Store the supplied top box, it's too small, non-standard fitting, a bugger to open or close.

3) Drill some holes and fit a givi top plate, I mostly use an E45 box.

4) I may look into adding a pannier bracket in the future.

5) A small trailer should be an easy option, assuming your country allows them.
