Hi, spent a few years drifting from Forum to Forum, contributing whenever possible but less so in recent years. I've now 'discovered' the potential pleasures of scootering on the PCX and am pleased to jump into this forum with a post or two. Trust me - as a real raw recruit, there will be many more questions posted than answers given - bear with me please.

The 'oldie' part refers to me being 72 - not the oldest on here no doubt, but definitely a late starter to be learning the ropes. I should add that I'm looking at having a Trike - few and far between in the UK unless we count the Goldwing brigade, but I've watched so many YouTube vids of 'rallies' in Asia etc, where it's common to see 20 or 30 trikes in convoys. Thailand - the original birthplace of the PCX - appears to have a few Trike conversion specialists and I am currently checking shipping costs, VAT and Duty fees and of course, DVLA Type Conformity. Happy days .

Perhaps any Thai residents on here (I've seen a few) could share thoughts or experiences - I have one particular outfit in mind.

Well you are just a bit older than I am (71), but that shouldn't stop you from enjoying riding. Keep us informed on the trike issue. When we were checking into triking one of our PCX 150s we found that kits were about the price of another bike.

Some members have triked theirs without using a kit. The one I liked the most was done by an individual in California, so don't give up if the kits cost too much. Someone local may be able to do it from parts at hand.

There are two ways to trike a bike.

The first is to put "training wheels" on it, which is what most kits do. This is done without removing the rear wheel, but rather hiding it under the fender.

The second way requires removing the rear wheel and running the added newly added rear wheels by way of a chain drive. This method takes some planning and a good mechanic.

Which way you decide to go will be up to you. Both methods have been employed in Thailand, home of the PCX.

Yes, the 'training wheels' seem quite prevalent but maybe I'm a purist and thus prefer to change the rear end for the differential and a wheel each side of me. As with all things, I started off humbly, looking at the 50cc PYG offerings from China (rebranded for the UK) but looked a little further and found the PCX125. I've not wavered from the PCX although the thought of a 150cc appealed until discovering (or assuming) that they don't import the 150cc to the UK nor to Europe?

There is the option of buying a ready converted trike from Thailand, which does work out comparatively good value, but then 'Type Conformity' could become an issue and, failing to gain that acceptance would be financially ruinous.

I'm still waiting to hear from HMRC about the Duty etc - and yes, I would be pleased to maintain a running commentary on progress (hopefully) made with this little project.

Too late to ‘edit’ my last post so forgive this amendment.

I had commented that I had assumed the PCX150 had not been imported into Europe. I have now found extensive reports that the 150 is/was built in Italy with owners resident throughout Europe. Maybe the 150 is indeed available in the U.K.? Advice appreciated..... thanks in anticipation.

One thing for sure is not all PCX models are alike. Some countries get features that other countries don't and vice versa. Best to just check online and see what the dealers are offering in your area and in the mean time don't waste any sunny days to ride!
