PCX 150 headlight switch repair.

Post by suzxee1234 »

Hi all.
Recently my headlight switch started acting ‘faulty’. Its a 3 way switch. The issue is, when I move the switch all the way to left, the rear light and the license plate light turns off. I have to keep the switch in between the middle and left to make the headlight and lights on the back to work.
Can anyone explain an easier way to fix the issue? The switch seems to be removable from outside, however I am not sure.

Mine has no headligh switch (it is mandatory in Europe to allways have the low beams on) so had no issues with the specific one like you, but the idle stop switch had been acting up last year.
Opened up the switch cluster (comes apart with two screws at the bottom), removed the switch, used the magical combo of contact cleaner and some dielectric grease and reinstalled everything. Works like new.

I don't believe that I have ever seen a 3 way light switch on a motorcycle/scooter. Hmmm. It is a requirement here in the United States to have the headlight on whenever the vehicle is being operated.

Still, you should be able to fix the problem by following what Oyabun said.

Agree with advice above. Open up the switch-box and have a peek. Give it a spritz of cleaner spray. It dissolves quickly - there's no run off unless you lose control of your index finger :D

Let's ask for more....
Does anyone reading here have a service manual showing the start/stop/light/switch-box? Would you kindly post a pic of "that page?"

The latch has to be removed from inside, so can't just pull out safely without opening the whole thing.

Rattle it from side to side every so often to keep it clean.

Nice job! Green on copper is ugly. What a difference after grinding off all that corrosion. :D

Yep, almost all newer switches are "swiped" each time they are activated which helps keep them clean and free from oxidization. Much better than the "contact" or plunger switches from years ago which didn't do this.

In order for that switch to look that bad it had To have allowed moisture in. You probably will need to seal it somehow so this won't happen again.
