Honda vision 110 not starting

Hello.
I have a real problem with my vision 110. It refused to start on Monday morning :-(
I can hear the starter motor turn over but it did not sound like the the Bendix drive was catching. In the evening I leaned the bike over as far as I could to the left and got it start eventually.
The next day it would not start again.
Today the starter motor sounded like it was slowly getting weaker as it turned over (if that makes any sense) and then sized up I think. I then opened the belt case, took of the cover for the bendix/pinion drive and could see that the teeth of the bendix were just behind where they would meet up with the teeth of the variator.
When I try to start the bike the bendix move forward onto the variator and then stops. (i have taken photo's but cannot upload).
Please help. Does the bendix need changing, the starter motor or both.
Thanks
