Dumb question: How does the brake lock work?

I didn't see anything about it in the manual. I have a knob in the left side of the fairing that says brake lock. If I squeeze the rear brake and pull that, it comes out and clicks, but when I release the brake, the bike starts to roll. So it's obviously not locked.

If I pull that, then squeeze the brake, same thing. No lock.

Does it only work with the front brake, which I haven't tried yet?

...or is there a trick to it?

...or is it actually useless?

...or is mine broken?

I've just been parking it on the center stand, pointing uphill and not using it, but it would be nice to have options.

Do you have a service manual? In the service manual on page 3-18 it says: Squeeze the rear brake lever and pull the brake lock knob. Release the rear brake lever and brake lock knob, check the brake lock knob is in locked position and rear wheel is locked completely. If it doesn't work you can adjust it by way of the adjusting nut by the back wheel.

X2....Check adjustment.
press left brake real hard pull out knob until it clicks. Also ,check if you even have any rear braking while depressing the left brake lever..You may not have any rear brake or minimal.

Thanks for the tips, fellers.

I was not pulling them both at the same time, which the service manual instructions seem to suggest.
