How new are CVTs in scooter land?? They're somewhat old, aren't they?

Did they ever use another kind of automatic transmission before CVTs, tho?

Honda Cubs (C/CT series) have had clutchless manual transmissions (centrifugal clutch) since at least the start of the 70s.
