Same with mine, i think it has to do with the slant of the tube where you put your dip stick. The way I can see is if there is oil on both side then it is ok. But make sure it's not overfilled

Twirl the dipstick anti-clockwise (so as not to tighten it) half to one turn before you withdraw?

Refer to the side facing the engine maybe?

Does it matter? As long as the tip and one side to the top marking is wet with oil after a few insertions, cleaning each time, then you can be sure the oil is at an ok level. Only if the tip is dry should you be worried.

It cant be slanted THAT MUCH.

FIRST: The oil stick should NOT be screwed in to measure the level. Very common mistake... I assume you have this right, but just in case :D

2. Use a little care and skill, clean the stick before inserting, and you can get a perfect reading, it is NOT slanted enough to cause the kind of error you report. You technique is BAD if you are getting one side low, and the other side overfilled, figure out what you are doing wrong to cause this.

You are correct, oil level is very important. I use great care to make sure mine is always perfect.

Keep it in the vertical position when viewing, I think once you go horizontal it crawls up the back side. I like the reverse twirl idea... I might try that.

Would be far easier to read if the stick was white.

Be thankful you have a dipstick.
Suzuki hasn't figured out how to make them. There are a few hundred posts about how to read the Burgman 400 oil windows.
(requires a crew of two, a stop-watch, a mirror on a stick , a monkey and a banana)
Fish
(I made up the part about the monkey)

There is a very simple solution to the non-problem of the burgman oil window.

^^ on level firm ground raise Burgman on its center stand. perhaps? Could the answer be "that" easy?

OMg that's funny! Do you still need the banana?
