RPMs ?

Post by coachz »

My 300 forza does 4700 rpms at 45mph and 5700 rpms at 55mph. Is that normal ? It seems high to me.
Thanks

No, I think that's completely normal. For some reason, surely unintentional by Honda, my tach and speedo correspond all the way up: 6000 at 60, 7000 at 70, 7500 at 75 (more or less). I think yours is right where it's supposed to be. Those RPMs are no problem for that sweet little balanced engine.

Perfectly normal.
If the RPM starts to increase its a sign of belt wear.

I have heard that it's a good idea to track of this as a consistent increase in RPM at a given cruising speed can be an indicator that the drive belt is wearing out.

Can anyone confirm or deny this rumor?
Current ride: 2014 Forza bought new in mid-2015; still only 18K on the odo
Traded in: 2003 GL1800 with 152K and several IBA rides on the clock
6 other previous bikes
nearly 3/4 million miles logged
now just commuting instead of touring

Its no rumour, its a cast iron fact.
In still air on level ground the RPM should be 6,200 at 60mph on a standard Forza 300 with a new belt.
As the belt wears the RPM can go as high as 6,800, however the belt will be well past the recommended mileage change interval at this point.
I know this because I had a belt disintegrate at 26,500 miles.
Dealer said it had been changed at the 16,000 mile service, but it definitely wasn't.
At 16,000 miles the RPM on mine had gone up to around 6,500

Thanks, gn2. The rumor made great sense to me, and I'm glad to have some metrics as a bit of a guide.

I think I'll celebrate by having a bit of your national beverage. It is, after all, almost 16:45 here.
