Just come across this - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JeFjwkfn0iY
Variator removal / swap and clean + rollers. Lots of great guides on here and in the service manual, but always good to have vid's like this.

Gee, looks like something I did yesterday, and the day before. Still, that is a good guide for those of you who have not done it before. I am surprised that he didn't need something to hold the drive face in place to keep it from spinning as well while he attempted to loosen the nut. Also, be sure to install the rollers so that they all face the same direction. If you look at a roller you will note that one side has a metal face while the other side has very little metal showing. It doesn't matter which side faces which when you install it, but ALL of them have to face the same way in order to be correctly balanced.

Great video, thanks for posting, Iceman, and thanks for the tips, Mel.

I haven't had to get in there yet but it looks straightforward enough. My Portuguese is a little rusty, though. Did they say this JCosta upgrade is not applicable to the 2015-16 models but only to the 2013-14? Does that mean that the .2 version has a different variator setup than the older one? Or do I have it backwards?

Anyway I learned one thing for sure from the video. My little shop has almost everything theirs does, but I totally need to get a beautiful assistant in there as an upgrade to my support team. All I have now is my two-year-old grandson who immediately hides any tools or parts you hand him.

Gonna start working on that today.

Johnny

Faved that video... and notice he used the impact wrench to tighten thus keeping the belt from pinching... risk of over tightening but effective if you have a feel for it.

I observe he didn't use a torque wrench. Hope nothing falls off

You should be able to gauge how much effort and how much a tight bolt moved when you take it off to judge to a good measure how tight to re-fit it. I doubt most garages/dealers accurately set a torque wrench moving from vehicle to vehicle or part of bike/car to another.

;) Yes iceman about "the feel" you, I and others, rely on the fact that those parts are "on spec" to begin with. If not, we're using the wrong method of re-fitting/tightening. I have done fine so far, you too I bet, so no changing our ways.
Must remember: Sometimes We're Not "the smartest tools in the shed!"
shush WN!

BTW I'm saving this page too. Appreciate you're sharing some very good video's! 8)
