Yes 127 claimed HP vs near measly 70 HP for the V-Strom 650. I think the V-Strom 1000 is only 100 HP.

You sound like my brother. 
The adventure add-ons detract a bit from the looks - especially on photos. It looks a bit better in person. Actually, they are pretty close if you make the seat comfortable and add adventure gear on the Honda.
