Burning smell

Post by Gnarg »

Hey guys i have had my New Forza for about a week now and i keep noticing a mild burning smell after riding for about 20 minutes plus. It sort of smells something like plastic heating up and melting or wire coating. I have looked around and cant see anything visable. Does anyone recall anything like this when their Forza was brand new? I only have about 20 miles on it and was wondering if this might be normal for a new Forza Scooter?

Had that, and occasionally still do on my PCX - a small of burning rubber. Dealer put it down to stuff getting on the exhaust and bad weather but I've had it in sunny conditions when commuting home - shortly after starting off. Never seems to be a real problem, but worrying when it happened for the 1st time.

Thanks everyone who shared their reply. I feel less concern now and will dispence with the riding in my fire proof suit while holding a fire extinguisher between my legs. Should make my rides more enjoyable in this Florida summer heat

I lived 15 years on the gulf coast of FL (north of Tampa). Yep, it's gonna get hotter and humidity will go up and over. I miss FL in the Fall and Winter, but....I must say I rest easier these days not having to worry about tornado's (well, not as much). What's odd, I can't seem to Shake "that" Feeling that one may touch down during any given storm. It will take (more) time I suppose.

So Gnarg, ya'll Floridian's have been safe the past few years from hurricane's, right? That's Wonderful! Is it me though? I've heard and noticed the weather changing throughout the States. I'm Not feeling good about it :? Bad vibes

(For 2yous....is it the boogie-man?
homie....is it,...you know! (teeth chattering).

I have had a few asian (Thailand) made motorcycles. I think they coat the engines with fish oil or some kind of vegetable oil so that they don't rust on the freighter coming to North America. The initial oil inside the motor seems to be something different.

Does anyone know what kind of oil they use?

I think it is the integral catalytic converter.

The RB and Reflex also had the same fishy odor after a longish ride (and still DO).

A few years back I installed a BEAMS exhaust on one of the Big Ruckus scooters and disabled the PAIR valve that assists the cat by pumping air into the exhaust stream and it doesn't stink after a ride any more.

the other BR now has 48000 miles and it still stinks after every ride....so, get use to it! :)
