front tire replacement

At 10,500 miles I will be replacing my rear tire for a second time. On average how long do the front tires last? I haven't replaced it yet, but probably will at the same time.

Mostly the front tire vs rear tire is ratio 1 : 2

When you need to change the rear for the 3rd time, the front is ready to be changed.

My front tyre has 19,000 miles on it and isn't down to the wear limit yet, looks like it will last to around 22,000 miles.

sean - what make of tyre have you got fitted to the rear at present and how do you ride - high speed or commuting?

The front tire looks OK. But, it seems easier to replace both now. I mostly use it for commuting, a 50 mile round trip at 55 to 70 mph. But, I have a couple of 500 mile round trips coming up, mostly at 70+ mph, some at 90+ degrees.

If there's plenty tread left on the front why change it?

You're right. If you've got 19,000 miles so far, I ought to be able to get more. I just don't want to get down to the belt like I did for the rear tire.

If you have the cash, i'd change them both, especially with the longer trips coming.

A front is pretty cheap:

But why throw away a perfectly serviceable tyre?
Just doesn't make sense to change before you get down to the wear limit.
