Five day ride through parts of central-ish Thailand.

Post by enthuesd »

After getting a lot of good information from FritzPinguin's trip through Thailand http://www.hondapcx.org/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=4103, I took off on my trip. I thought I would contribute a bit to the forum to those who are interested.

As an intro, I've been living in the Kingdom for over a year and a half. I'm at an intermediate level at Thai language. I've had the PCX for less than a year. Got my motorcycle license in America but never used it there.

I had originally planned to travel 10 days, through predominantly the Northeast and East. I changed course due to a shortening of the trip to 5 days. I also originally planned to ride on side roads or rural roads for 90% of the journey. I had made a route of every single road before leaving, but that was for the 10 day journey and with the aid of a computer. Since I didn't bring my computer, upon changing the itinerary, and for lack of time, I took main highways after the second day.

I highly recommend taking the side roads in Thailand, for they're usually in pretty good shape, and even if there are some rough spots, the point of taking side roads isn't to hurry through to some place, but to enjoy the slower pace. Nevertheless the sideroads that I rode on were in great condition, and I was only passed ONCE in the first TWO days of riding. I was the one doing all the passing. That's how quiet the roads were. People that I encountered told me they don't get my kind coming through very often. Petrol station attendants were impressed with where the gas lid is on the PCX. I guess PCXs don't come by very often in deep countryside.

The main roads were also fine drives. These highways were in great condition, and although I was being passed, they felt safe and were efficient for getting from A to B, with plenty of rest stops on the way.

I realized the PCX speedo is pretty off. I rev limited a few times, the phone telling me at ~102.4kmph, but the speedo was showing a higher speed. I also climbed a few mountains and steep inclines and the engine had to work hard to get up them. But that's to be expected, and much better than something smaller, like a 110.

If anyone has any questions let me know. I attached some pics. Fun trip. Going to do it again sometime. Hopefully further and longer, with my 90% side road goal.

Hey, congratulations! Nice route you picked, Khao Yai National Park is very impressive, and the way to Phitsanulok passing Petchabun is lovely. I like this bridge, I must have been crossing it about 6 times already. Thanks for letting us get the confirmation: The PCX is good for a longer trip.
Oh yes, at least your bike is white and not black. :D :D :D
