I've been shopping for a High-Viz mesh jacket.

Cosmetic accessories, comfort accessories, windshields, luggage racks, etc.

I've been shopping for a High-Viz mesh jacket.

Post by yak »

Wearing any jacket at all in Phoenix,AZ, USA is almost impossible. We are always over 110º. It's December and the temps are near 80º. Today i saw an ad on Craigslist for a motorcycle jacket.... almost no information about the jacket and the guy had it in the Clothing category instead of under Motorcycles asking $45. I offered him $25 for it and got a call saying that he was moving and i could have it if i got there in an hour. I am the proud owner of an "M Gear" jacket. The pads are on the outside of the jacket..... not inserts. I looked for M Gear online and found nothing. Inside the jacket it says Mountain Gear Apparel. So i went to mountaingear.com but couldn't find any motorcycle jackets. It is very much like a winter parka. It says Style FW-107. The guy said he bought it at a Clearance Sale at the local motorcycle shop. Never wore it. It looks and feels brand new.

Does anyone know what i bought? I am hoping that forum member WhiteNoise responds by saying that i got the best deal in the whole world. I am worried that forum member homie will say that i actually bought a floor liner for a truck bed that is disguised to look like a jacket.

I wore the jacket home for the 10 mile ride. Toasty warm.

Continued: The jacket is not mesh and it is not high viz. It's black and has a textile exterior.

Okay yak, you had me hunting around the www for awhile there. Came up with the same mountain gear website. That one was too obvious and Not the answer (as u know). I searched further, from Rei, to Sierra Trading Post, eBay (where I did find m gear with a seller from Arizona) and a few other sites.
Any more info to share or maybe a photo?

You certainly got the jacket for a great price. Hope it fits the way you want it to and that it provides good>v.good>or better protection. Armor on the outside, you say  Hmm....you got me stumped on this one! (imagine that! :D )

Inside it says Mountain Gear Apparel "Street" ( "street" is below the other words). You can see the pads on the outside. Don't feel like a kevlar insert.... just pads.

Elbow pads are just like these shoulder pads. I tried to upload 2 photos at once but only one uploaded. What is the secret to adding the 2nd one? I clicked on Choose File. Then Add File.

Doesn't look very protective. My riding jacket has CE approved armor. Along with the Hi-viz yellow is a good way to go.

I have a black Fulmer motorcycle Jacket with CE armor too. I got my Honda dealer to match the cheapest price I could find on the Internet.

This is the hi-viz vest I actually ordered which also has additional removable armor. It would be useful when it gets hotter and the jacket is too warm. It will go over the armored Fulmer jacket normally. It is still red/black. :P

Outer shell made of ultra breathable mesh.
• Reflective panels on front and back for night time visibility.
• Chest pocket for ID card.
• Double density back armor brings a unique feature in this vest. It is held in place inside a Velcro pocket. It can easily be removed or changed if needed.
• YKK zippers.
• Side waist adjustments.
• Designed for US Military Bikers.

@SECoda - A nice hi-viz helmet would go great with that vest.

WN asks to be pardoned from seeking said & shown Mgear Jacket. I have looked once again. Fail!
Could it be then that member yak has the only Mgear jacket on Earth :D Possible? Where else can one be found, I ask?
If the www and Google Kings have no word, no pic, no name, how could WN find Mgear? Excuse please from duty. I thank thee.

Now.....talking 'bout & getting back to the Hi-Viz bizz, have Ya seen all these images yak? Like any? Tap one or more pics of the those you like to get a closer look. Nice to be seen...don't cha think? So many choices too ;)

In your Google search bar type in: Hi vis motorcycle jackets, click search, then the "images tab."
See a string of hi vis jacket pictured? Click on one of those and Bam! Up come a poopload of hi vis jackets! Click any one (or more) of those shown to get more info about it.
Oh, the www can be sooo helpful, esp. to Detectives ;)

One time while riding saw a guy with only a hi-viz fluorescent yellow helmet and that worked good for him. Maybe better then just only a hi-viz vest. The head is up high and most visible.

No name brands generally isn't good news, might be a China product.

There's no other tag with a direct link to a company website?

As for wearing a jacket in Arizona, I have two recommendations:
Mesh Kevlar
http://www.motoport.com/index.php?optio ... &Itemid=15

OR

LD Comfort undergarments
http://ldcomfort.com/

The LD Comfort gear doesn't work well with mesh, and the main method it works is to soak the garments with water and let evaporative cooling chill you. The mesh kevlar is entirely vented and works perfectly well at speeds, but you'd better keep moving or it'll cook you alive in stop and go traffic.

Thanks, Mel. But no one has found an example of an actual M Gear jacket for sale. Which means that i might have a NASA prototype jacket that could be worth $Millions in the future.
