Will The Seat Unlatch With No Battery?

I have a quick question. I am going to be parking my PCX for a month while I travel back to the US and Canada (daughter's wedding). I have been thinking of disconnecting the battery while I am gone, partly for security reason and partly to prevent a drain on the battery. So my question is, if I disconnect the battery, will I still be able to unlatch the seat to hook it back up when I get home? In other words, is the latching mechanism electrical or mechanical/manual?

I'm pretty sure that it's a mechanical latch, as one has to exercise some "force" in the switch, and it works or doesn't work when the key is in a position in the ignition that locks the switch. Let's see if someone has tried it, so instead of "pretty sure" can say "sure" ;)

I like "sure" over "pretty sure" too. ;)

I'm not "pretty sure" I'm absolutely certain the seat latch is operated mechanically via a bowden cable.
You can safely remove the battery and still open and close the seat with it out.

Thanks GN2. I appreciate your "absolutely certain" over our "pretty sure".

That is very good to know! Thank you kramnala for asking and thanks gn2 for getting it right :P
You've both taught me something today, and what's a "Bowden cable?"
I Had to look it up, my 1st teaching this day. Got it! ;)

I'm old enough to have owned and ridden a bicycle with fully lever operated brakes, there were no bowden cables on it at all.

It's mechanical. Fuel is mechanical too. :)

I have two bikes with fully lever operated brakes, one of them has no brake cables at all (hydraulic disc).

:ugeek: Just read this over at Wikipedia (loaded with interesting info): http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bicycle_brake_systems

From what I read, your lever brakes of yesteryear were either Spoon, Duck or a type of Rim brake, such as Rod Actuated. Must I pick just one teach? ;)

:? Sorry folks for the off topic mini chat, but me curious mind really wants to know. Thx

The bike I generally ride has a Rohloff internally geared hub with 14 speeds. I have a Schmidt dynohub on the front to run my lighting. The frame (and forks) is a Thorn Raven that I got shipped from SJS bicycles in Britain and I built it up from scratch, including lacing the rims which I've been good at for decades (as long as I set it up as 2 or 3 cross on the spokes). Built one of these Thorns for my wife too. I've been riding it for about 8 years now and it's been great, a lot of miles with no problems (except some flats).

The other bike with disc brakes is standard Shimano 3x9 on a Turner mountain bike frame, built that one up from individual parts to my own taste too, total cost on that one was more than I paid out the door for the PCX.

No, you were right. The gears on both bikes are operated using Bowden cables. I guess the only thing not using them is the hydraulic disc on the mtb.
