So far the SMAX tops out — on flat ground, no wind — at 74 MPH speedo, = 69 MPH GPS.

(Yeah, the SMAX's speedometer is consistently 5 MPH optimistic. Unlike my PCX and Metros, all of whose speedos are accurate to within 1 MPH. Go Honda!)

69 MPH.... That's pretty close to where the PCX 150 hits its limit, isn't it?

Course, the SMAX only has 108 miles on it so far. I'll be interested to see whether it gains a few as it breaks in. (And as the weather gets warmer.)


I did have a Zuma 125, but never checked its speed with GPS. I think its speedo was likely as optimistic as the SMAX's though.... if so, it's a tad slower than the PCX 125. The dual bug-eyed headlights of the Zuma looked really goofy to me too.

I liked the Zuma 125 well enough. But like the SMAX, its seat was too high — and way too wide — for me.

A stock PCX125 will barely crack 62 mph honest top speed. the 150 will do 65 mph at the rev limiter and can do a bit more with an aftermarket variator.

Huh. Is that for the 2015 150? I seem to remember hearing that the 2013 150 was actually slighter faster than the 2015.

A 2013 PCX150 will do maybe 66 mph at redline before any belt wear in starts to decrease that. With an aftermarket vario it has enough power to break 70 mph with the longer gearing. The 2015 has one less tooth on the final gear for some reason. Don't know why Honda bothered with that.

Sendler, looks from your avatar as if you installed mirrors directly on the front fairing? Did you post this mod anywhere?

That is my CBR250R.

I rode the Smax at Americade. It has a very nice engine and the trans is very responsive with a nice wide ratio that the PCX only gets after changing to lighter DrPulley sliders. I do see what others have said about a less than accurate feeling in the steering at low speed corners as was mentioned by the owner who posted about trading his Smax back in for another PCX. The other rider that I overheard coming off of the bike said the same thing. Fuel sloshing in the tank? And I would have to change the seat as it has a couple inches less legroom in the forward position than my 2013 PCX150 with the humpectomy.

I just got a barely used 2011 PCX 125 today, it only had 1,150 miles or so. I got it at the dealer who also had a used 2015 Smax. I rode the Smax first.
I liked the SMAX's power, it was faster than my 125 for sure but the handling was bad, I did not care for it at all. The center of gravity was too high, I am 5 feet 6 so that added to its tippy feel up high. Slow U turns the Smax felt like a tank as the other poster said while the little PCX was a dream almost like a big motorized bicycle. The CVT tranny on the SMAX is quiet and feels good.
I paid 2060 OTD for the 125 which I thought was a good deal.

I have ridden the 2015 PCX150 and to me the 125 is the more nimble bike. Its feels lower to the ground and the dash design feels more compact which works for a smaller guy like me.
I actually like the older PCX bodystyle more , feels more connected to me.

The SMAX- I like the tach, dash design and comfortable seat and nice sounding motor and CVT but that handling is awful to terrible for me.

While looking up the Yamaha I came across this article. I'm not sure if I like it or not. Any Opinions?

The engine and Trans of the Smax are very nice but Yamaha knows that the PCX is the much better riding and roomier Machin so the have already made a move away from the Smax with the new Xmax125 which is pretty much a copy of the PCX.

Xmax is Forza size, I think you mean the Nmax?

Opinions of the ADV... It simply isn't a scooter, it isn't ever going to be a serious off roader, its a Chelsea Tractor is what it is.
Posers will love it and sales of fake spray on mud are sure to increase.

That ADV - why such a large displacement?
I know they are using a previous engine design - why not lop off one cylinder and make a 375cc
lighter weight-less insurance
like that 55 degree vertical engine making for a low centre of gravity
our PCX's must be similar to that but a lot smaller
a hybrid between the two would be OK with me

Yeah. The Nmax. Yamaha's answer for the poor low speed handling of the Smax.

Come on lets get honda to build a proper bike
they know a 55 degree of vertical single works
the belt drive system has worked on their 600cc silverwing
how about a single cylinder scooter with a little more punch-350cc
and a proper suspension-monoshock rear and some footpegs
you could retain the underseat storage low gravity and have a way lot more capability

Yamaha is introducing a v twin 950 chain drive scrambler to market this year?
talk about living in the past they know the market is dominated by old relics with money

I was actually choosing between the 2016 PCX and the NMAX 155 a few months back. The only reason why I choose the PCX is because the I like the way it looks. Haha

NMAX is cheaper by around $200, has a lil bigger cc (155), 4 valves and the biggest difference is the ABS. I almost bought it.

The 13" wheel size doesn't appeal to me too.

I actually rode the SMAX last summer on Yamaha's demo days. I took it on the freeway with the other riders with R1, R6, FZ07 , R3. I had to pin the throttle every single moment to keep within distance of the riders. Top speed don't remember but for freeway riding I do not think any 150cc bike is going to cut it with me. So I was at the dealer thinking should I do 2060 OTD or 2600 OTD for the 150 private seller price. I thought you know what I am never going to take the 150 on the freeway or hwy so might as well save some money and go 125.

Since the SMAX has a tach anything freeway 60-70 had the tach just screaming up high.
