Anyone seen a kickstarter for the PCX?

I'm stranded with a dead battery and angry that my scooter doesn't have one.

I should clarify -- I know this isn't a factory option. I'm looking for an aftermarket kit, specifically from those of you in other countries (like Thailand or Japan) where it's more likely they'd mod like that.

I also know the bike has FI and the kickstarter might not necessarily start a fully dead bike. In my case today, the battery isn't completely shot, but too drained to crank... *sigh*

Dead/low batteries are a problem with the non North American PXC's because they have the Idle/Stop feature. If you use it in traffic with multiple stops and starts in a short period, it can drain the battery fairly quick. I rarely use mine because of that reason.

I think the suggestion to try one of the jump start boxes might not be a bad idea.

As well, now that the battery has died once, if there isn't a specific reason for it (i.e. multiple starts/stops in a short period), I would consider replacing it. I made the mistake of not doing that and a friend got stranded with mine when the battery died.

It's not got a kick start for probably loads of reasons. If the battery totally flat it won't actuate the fuel injection so won't start anyway. If it did have a kickstart and there was an ignition fault there is raw unburned fuel going into the catalytic converter and this damages them. Some older cars had secondary oil pumps on the auto boxes so they could be tow started but they took this feature off when cats where introduced into the UK in 1989/1990 for this reason.

Hi,

Consider purchasing a lithium battery.
They last longer, have better cranking power, take less time to charge and best of all weigh around a 5th compared to the standard battery for the pcx.
We sell them at work http://www.mototempo.gbr.cc I'm not sure if they have been put on the website yet but they are on eBay just search for mototempo.

Nigel

PS.

Got my pearl white PCX last week, 2011 with 800 miles on the clock used by some old fella on a campervan.
I had a GPZ500 but with a bad back I had to sell it, got my PCX now and I am loving it.
Wouldn't mind adding the Kitako digital speedo but I have a Givi screen on route, a lithium battery and an alarm hopefully fitted this weekend.

Can't beat hopeful fitting

i run a LiIon battery in one of my PCX's that I got for $75. Weighs like .8lbs vs. 4.3lbs. Every little bit helps. Big fan of weight reduction. Positive effect on handling, braking, acceleration, hill climbing, even if small.

OP, for that matter, for less than the cost of a kickstarter mod (even if one did exist) you could purchase a spare LIIon battery for such occassions. As small as they are, and as long as they last without discharging (years), you could stast it under your seat. =)

But, I'm assuming this post was simply made out of frustration and you're no longer looking for a kickstarter. =)

Sorry that things aren't going so well lately Dave. One thing after another. It sucks, but better will come.

This is also what I thought, but when I changed my enduro bike, realised that KTM solved this problem, so my last 2012 KTM 500exc had a fuel injected engine, and DID have a kickstarter. I even tried it several times, to see if it was difficult, and it worked like a charm ;)

I did not have problems with the battery, but I read that, if the battery was not totally dead, it could start with the kick starter. If the battery was dead cold, one could use a kind of "capacitor" (9volt regular battery) to give some juice to the injection system.

Yamaha SR400 has no electric starter and fuel injection.
