Locked my keys in my car...

Just thought id share with people how stupid i am
My car never recognises that ive opened my drivers door (need it fixing) and because of this if i dont start the car, it locks itself 30 seconds after i unlock it regardless of whether ive got in or not. So i went in my car, chucked the keys on the passenger seat, grabbed something out the glove box and then got out and shut the door. Then 'click'

o_O o_O o_O
:o :o :o
:x :x :x

I dont have a spare.

Gave my mechanic a ring (my parents know him pretty well) and he came over.
All 4 of us, torches in hand set to getting it unlocked without having to smash a window. We pryed the drivers door open with a crowbar and a rag, put a coathanger in and managed to hook it over the handle :)
It was deadlocked, didnt work
So we pryed open the passenger side, fed in some sort of flat 1cm wide long metal wiring stuff, sorta like tagliatelle pasta, and bent a hook on the end of it. Fed in the coathanger and managed to manouvere the two to hook the keys. We pulled them up against the corner of the window, fed in a long thin screwdriver and managed to press the button on the key to unlock the car :D :D :D

And then we had to push the door shut against a block of wood to bend it back into place. Its fine now though.
Time to buy a spare key i think. Anyone got any ideas of how to buy one without getting ripped off by VW dealers?

The wal-mart near me has a key duplicator that makes all sorts of keys, check with them or your local hardware store to see if they could do it.

Glad to hear you got your key out... Last time I did that, I just kicked out the passenger window. The time before, the window next to my kitchen.

Yeah i can get a blade cut easily anywhere. But all that'll do is open the door. The keys got a transponder for the immobilizer and central locking that needs to be coded to my car via vag-com. I'll probably get a blade cut for now for £5 to cover me for this scenario again but I need to get a spare that will actually start the car incase I lose it. Can't afford it now though, gotta pay £500 for a full service and cambelt change plus fix other little niggly things. And then im takin my girlfriend to Cardiff for her birthday to get tattooed by Chris Jones. And the month after that I've got my PCX insurance to pay.

Yikes. That sucks then. I'd pinch pennies as much as possible to try to get the key with the circuitry in it. If you lose the coded key, you'll have to get the whole ignition rekeyed, which will definitely cost a whole lot more than getting a replacement key.

I wonder if anyone has locked their PCX keys under the seat?

Not on a PCX, but I did lock my keys in my sv650 tiny little storage area after getting pulled over by the cops.... I got a "Wasting Finite Resources" for speeding 13 over in a construction zone... Cop cut me a HUGE break because a WFR ticket costs $35 with no points.... the speeding ticket would have doubled in the construction zone so I would have been looking at about $550 + 2 points. Wasting Finite Resources is more for people who like to rev their engines at traffic lights. Right after he gave me the break and my $35 ticket, I had closed the passenger seat lock... with my keys inside. Luckily I was only about 3 miles from home and my roommate brought me my spare

i have a confession i vowed never to repeat to anyone. a month after getting my pcx i rode to wales to see a friend, parked on her drive and as i went to leave i panicked, couldn't find my keys anywhere. then i had a thought, i pried my seat to the side with my fingers, and there they were in the lowest part of my seat. i had to get my friend to get on of those magnets on a stick while i pulled the seat to the side. damn near made my fingers bleed to do it.

Ring around your local auto locksmiths as their prices should be cheaper than a dealer.

My wife locked her keys under the seat of her PCX. Since we ride together, I had to get on my Burgman and drive home to get the spare. After that we decided that each of us will keep the other's spare key in their bike at all times. Since that decision we haven't had a problem.

First thing I got was a third key for the PCX, including a properly coded RFID chip. I paid 150 Baht for it, which translates to about 5 US$. There is a friendly keymaker at BigC in Phuket... The remote is not that important, we all know how to turn on the alarm without remote, do we? ;)

There's another dumb guy here. I locked the keys in my 3/4 ton pickup at my sisters house. I called two pros to get them out. Both failed so I borrowed a hammer from my sister and broke the vent. I think it cost $50.00 to get it fixed. Yes, it was years ago. Lesson learned. Ever since I never go anywhere without a spare set of keys. And they say you can't teach an old dog new tricks.

With my old Mark 3 Escort, if you had the master key you could get a £5 blank and program the keys in the steering lock (takes 30 seconds and the user manual tells you what steps to take). Ford dealers wanted £150 to 'make' a spare key! This may be the case with new cars, but for the '95 reg model, it's an end-user simple problem to resolve. Typical dealer.

I think I recently saw a key machine that could handle the new keys with a chip in them. I am not sure where though. It might have been at a hardware store.

Home Depot actually does the chip keys, amazingly. Sometimes they have to order em, but they do most vehicles short of the crazy luxury cars that are completely keyless.

I drive a Toyota Prius. Got out of the car once with the keys on the passenger seat. Locked my door and closed it. About 2 seconds later I heard a beep and the lock popped open.
Made me feel so good.
