This normal?

After giving the scoot a bit of a clean I noticed this. Should the metal look like that on a 5 month old bike? Any ideas what to do about it as not sure it is a warrenty claim?

yep, if you ride it over the winter months the metal components take a beating. Mine is only 3 months old and its looking the same.

Could be worth a call to your local dealer to see what they say?

Hm did not ride in salt conditions which is why I am surprised.

in that case, i have no idea.

I live on the coast so that would explain why mine has deteriorated so quickly.

It's perfectly normal and it isn't a warranty claim because it's function is not impaired.
If you don't clean it at all it ends up looking like it's been sand cast.

So there are three options:
1: Strip it down polish and lacquer it (pain in the arse, takes ages and will need repeating)
2: Strip it down paint and lacquer it (pain in the arse, takes ages and will need repeating)
3: Leave it alone (no user input required)

I go with option 3

Normal, mine looks the same. She'll age and get less pretty, you can't do anything but enjoy the ride and not worry about it. ;)

I give everything a quick wipe over with wd40 or ACF50 after cleaning just to help stop the alloy oxidising. Your picture looks fine to me - nothing to worry about, just give it a squirt with wd40 if you want it really clean.

Wd40 made it look worse as now you can clearly see the patches of shiney metal underneath the dull matt outer coating. Just a bit surprised how it is looking scurffy so quickly. Oh well just have to live with it and at least it is outta sight. Option 3 it is then!

Careful where you squirt that WD40, there's things inside there which you don't want to get lubricated...

Would never use wondrr wheels again. Was ok on the mini alloy wheels but it really messed up the finish on my Mondeo wheels years back.

Near rear brake but I am not crazy enough to spray wd40 where it should not go :-)

So a qjick update. Dealer took pics and submitted to Honda who say it is not a painted part and is not covered as this is normal wear and tear.
Off course some already knew that but here it is from the horses mouth

You could carefully mask the area around it off and spraypaint it with some good paint.

May do so if it gets much worse. Might then apply clear protective film on that bit I spray paint.
