found a used Jcoasta variator

found someone who is selling a barely used jcoasta local in my area. He sold the PCX without it. He is not affiliated with corsport and noted better off the line acceleration and 4-5 more mph. I'm not expecting magic... but the price is pretty good at $150 and I can pick it up without dealing with shipping. Think its worth it? Or can you think of a better use of my $150 towards my PCX?? My thoughts are I can sell it on ebay and make most the money back if I regret it. Also, this is a still a maybe, because $150 is still a lot of dough =]

you'd be better off using it for about 2000 miles worth of fuel :P
I've never seen the point in them. Top speed is fine as it is and so is acceleration in my view.

yes... but I've heard its better up hills... Also, there is a very small stretch of highway I like to take on the way home from work at 1am. About half my ride to work is at 50mph or higher. Wish I could try before I buy =]

I've noticed slightly better acceleration with my jcosta, but no gain in top end. It seems people get different results though, so i can't tell you what you'll get. I love mine and don't regret purchasing it however.

Well, he did compare topboxes to cancer once and now he has one of them :p

I bet you could talk him down to $100 or so, it's not like there's a big market for these.

If you do, I'll be REALLY interested in your results. There's so much inconsistency between people's results, I wish we could get a more definitive answer about whether or not this variator will improve performance...

Yep I seem to remember he did.
And he has, an E300B, should have got a slightly bigger one :(

Major difference between the merits of purchasing a topbox and a JCosta variator... a standard PCX doesn't have a topbox but it does have a variator.

Do not believe anything you hear about the JCosta in the PCX, the only thing that is guaranteed is the purchase price, every other "fact" is merely bovine plop-plops.

ah bummer. i totally should have offered lower... the guy wanted $200 for it, so I playfully offered $150, thinking that even if he said yes, I wouldnt be interested, but now that its within my reach...

And thanks gn2! I know that there has been nothing but mixed results with these, so knowing that, the only way to see if this will work for me is my trying it out. I'll see if I can him to go lower, but I did already make the offer... =[

I might be leaning towards letting this one pass... the rollers are only expected to last 4-6000 miles, and I cannot find a source for replacement other than an old corsport thread that estimated $50. Probably just save the money towards a honda NC700X

That NC700X looks to be a very interesting beastie.
8000 miles between services..... nice :)
The NC700S is also looking good and is a fair bit cheaper, UK price is £5300-ish

Sadly the nc700s and the integra won't be available in the US. I could care less about the integra. I think its really ugly

I agree about the Integra's looks. The Silver Wing GT600 looks nice but we don't get it in the UK for some reason :?

We only get the less glamourous non GT -

Though it can only be a few panels that makes the difference.

NC700X ^

Here's it on Honda's site: http://powersports.honda.com/2012/nc700x.aspx

Whoa, that thing looks SWEET. It's like a BMW GS only better, in my opinion. :)

I already have 3 bikes, I don't think the wife will let me get another, sadly.

I like the S.
Lower to the ground, doesn't have a silly looking beak and a good bit cheaper.

If the S were available, I would research that too, but even the x wont be available until July, and the s has no plans of ever coming to the US... yet

The high seat height is actually something im liking about the x. I have almost a 34" inseam, so I shouldn't have a problem flat footing it.

I was thinking more about the CofG rather than seat height.
Me no likey the road handling of big bikes on stilts.
Proper trailies shouldn't be more than 400cc and should always be single cylinder.

Higher top speed isn't really as important, to me at least, as better acceleration in the 30 - 50mph range for getting past slower traffic more safely. I'd be interested to hear if any jcosta (or other make), owner has found any noticeable improvement in this respect.
