PCX150 speedo accuracy?

Post by Amaranthus »

I brought home a quality Garmin GPS from work and did a thorough test of my speedo across a range of speeds on my stock 2013 PCX150.

In the 50 to 110 kph (31 to 68 mph) range, I got a fairly consistent result of my speedo reading 8% over the GPS result (some variance/noise, but definitely sat in the 7.5 to 9% range).

On the motorway - with a smooth and level road - I got up to a top speed of 118 kph (73 mph) according to my speedo, which my GPS reported as a real speed of 109 kph (67.7 mph).

How does this compare to other people who've measured their speedo accuracy? Are you getting the same ~8% over-read?

Mine over reads by 10%.
This is a good thread because there seems to be quite a wide range of inaccuracy from scoot to scoot.

Please would you also write an entry here: http://www.hondapcx.org/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=1982

the 150s tend to be about 10% or dead on

In Pa, if the police want to slow down traffic in town, they put up a blinking sign and when you go past, it say your speed is _ _ . I found a couple of these last summer and did a comparison with my speedometer and what the sign speed said I was going. it was dead on both times.

Our pcx 150s in the USA all have mph readings. I'll speak generally for our 150s. In the USA our 150s are maxed (rollers are bouncing around) at 68mph consistently. This is what your gps reads. So in general kph models are 8-10% over and mph models are dead on.

Yep. I tested our 150 and posted it previously. When it reaches 45 - 50 it is off by 10%. Prior to that the error was 7 - 8%, so I would have to say that Mgalutia88 is telling it like it is. If your speedometer tops out at 70 - 75 then your speedometer is in error.

I look at my speedometer whenever I want to know what speed I'm travelling.
Sure I don't care if the speedometer is 10% out as long as I know about it.
Then I can estimate my actual speed which is important to me... I wouldn't have looked at the speedometer if I didn't want to know my speed.

In some parts of the world we use our speedometers to measure our speed so as not to get tickets when we pass officers of the law. ;)

Not sure if it's common to Honda only, but almost every Honda scoot I've owned is off by + 10% (±)
Too many scoots..... 12 or so I think .

Most AUTOMOBILES are very accurate, partly because Honda took the fall on this one back in 2007:
Seems like 2 wheels dont matter...

I hadn't thought about the 'too many miles on the odo' problem - very interesting. Thanks chucktuna.

i thought we were talking about speedometer?

to accurately measure your speed, you'll need additional device, speedometer is only to give hint of how fast you're going

I took my GPS and did a comparison with the PCX 150 speedo. From 60 kph to 90kph, there is discrepancy in speed. about 62kph on the speedo, the GPS is 58kph. 80kph on the speedo, it was about 70-73kph on GPS(I was going up on a slight incline) and going down the slope, 90kph on the speedo read 80 kph on the GPS. Now I know there is some discrepancy. It's not so bad as other scooters. I know for the Yamaha Fino 125, 100kph on the speedo is actually 80kph......

I did a 2nd test, this time with my Garmin 60Cx GPS. The results is shocking indeed. 10% difference all the way! PCX speedometer reading is 10% more than GPS reading.

.
The speed units on trailers may or may not be accurate.
Since these signs are there to slow traffic and cannot be used in court,
there is no reason for anyone to calibrate them on a regular basis.
So, some signs are never calibrated.
Some are.
No way to know how accurate they really are.
If you want accurate, verify it against a GPS unit.

You are correct. I'm at an unverified 79mph. I'll let you all know when I reach a verified 80mph!
