NCY variator and sliders - not a good combo

Post by Mgalutia88 »

So we all know that dr pulley sliders are a great product. I also enjoy my NCY variator, it's an ok piece that raised my pcx 150 top speed to 77 mph down hill and 75 mph on flat ground. I trie using sliders in this variator... Twice. Something about the coating in the NCY variator does not mix with the sliders. There is jerking and bucking at around 65 mph and that's the top end.

Just an FYI to you all.

Good heads-up. The shape of the faces for the rollers may cause binding.

Been googling this question and it let me back to this forum! Duh. I've know I've read somewhere that sliders and the coated NCY vario weren't compatible, may have been here, maybe somewhere else.

Anyway, any update on this Maglutia? R U back to rollers? What weight rollers are you now using. I've been using the stock rollers thinking they're better for FE, but now wanting a bit more performance. After running some 16G rollers instead of the 18G that came stock in the NCY unit, I'm now reading more and thinking I want to try 13G which I happen to have a set of in my garage right now.

I may throw them on shortly and report back my thoughts. =)

shivayash let me tell you that even JCosta isn't the masterpice of variator's. Yeah it gives more acceleration on take off and more top speed but only downhill. I had it installed for a lot of km and now I'm using stock variator with Dr. Pulley sliders and some mod's on the variator and it is giving me an overall better performance uphill and against wind!

Hmmm, I should set up my video cam and pull off the side cover and run it on the stand and see how much clearance it has with the current rollers. I have the sliders in my "cart" on Amazon, just haven't pulled the trigger yet.

I can afford a belt seeing as i have a spare and (2) PCX 150's at that as well.
