how accurate is the speedo

who has tested the speedo to gps im curious on how close some claims are on these i know my 80 was pretty close till it broke 45(which is the factory top speed) then i was off by 3-4 but coulda been a old cable. but i know the rucks are only somewhat accurate.

I tested ours against our GPS, which I have attached to my Burgman. Here are the results. Up to 30 mph it is off by 2-3 mph. As you move up it is off at 40 mph by 4 mph. At 50 and above it is off by 5 mph. It seems to stay at that to the top of its speed, which is 67 mph by GPS. That means add 5 to 67 and that is what your speedometer will be reading...72 mph.

I compare mine to the roadside "Know Your Speed" checkers set up by local police. My speedo and the readings from the checkers are always right about the same. I have a PCX 150.

Yes, 62 is your lot if its a 125

I doubt the 150 PCX is much faster than the 125 PCX given that the 150 PCX has less bhp than a decent 125

I have tested the PCX 125 speedo against a Garmin GPS in various conditions, and it is always dead on (at most +/- 1 mph). This is better than some of speedos on stock police bikes...

I did the same with mine and it reads 5mph fast at 60mph.

Mine will go a little faster than this on gps and MCN ride logger. But not by much

Does it not seem that the US bikes have an accurate speedo and everyone else's are a bit optimistic? Personally I like them to read a little high as it keeps the speed cops off your back if your a little over....

No mike you are hitting 67 just like mine did before mods...
I think most of the early PCX(125 v.1) must have crappy speedo's, and I think Mel46 has a fluke 150 speedo.

After I explained the speedometer error to my wife she started calculating the real speed in her head as we rode along, and now we stay right at the speed limit when she is in the lead. I check with my GPS each ride we go on. We just came from a 164 mile ride today. Got home 10 minutes before the clouds parted and it poured. It is still pouring... Ugh. I do not understand how some speedometers can be more off than others, but I do know that both my speedometer on my Burgman and my wife's on her PCX 150 are off about the same. I know that the PCX 150 tops out at 67, so if any of you have a 150 and you hit the limiter you will more than likely be going 67 mph, no matter what it reads. There have been others on this forum who have suggested that I have mine checked by way of a GPS because ours always said 72 when it hit the limiter. They were right. Ours reads somewhat correct on those police speed signs if we are in the range of 25 - 35 because we are looking at it and adjusting our speeds accordingly automatically.

My US PCX150 speedo is dead on with gps. If the PCX is like the CBR250R, the world bikes intentionally read 8% fast and the US bikes are dead on. Some kind of silly. unwritten law to insure that no one can ever say they crashed because they were going faster than the speedo said.

My bike is pretty accurate until 40 mph. Then it starts to read faster then what I am traveling. At 50 mph (GPS ) the PCX speedometer says I am traveling at 54. I havent tested it much faster then that but Im sure it just gets worse.

I just had the speedometer on my 2013 PCX 150 replaced by Honda Canada. The original was 10% off(it shows too fast) when I checked it against two different Garmin gps units.
There has been no improvement with the newer speedometer head.
When the speedometer shows 100 kph, my Garmin gps only shows 90 kph.
When it shows 55 kph, my gps only shows 50 kph.
Is anyone else having this problem?

Same as all my bike (except MT-01), and car, all approx. 10% over.

People are too trusting on the GPS units. So many factors affect there accuracy, how many satellites are connected, the precision of the timebase in the GPS unit and your latitude in relation to their orbit. The fact that two speedos are wrong makes me think there is an error in your reference, as long a s things like tire size has not been changed.
